About the Author

Florentine and Pig is the brainchild of singer-songwriter Eva Katzler. Working with children of all ages in summer camps, Eva quickly became aware that kids had forgotten - or had never known - the simple pleasures of getting a little messy with their hands. She devised the delightful partnership of Florentine and Pig as a way of encouraging children (and adults!) to rediscover the joys of making things together.

Jess Mikhail graduated from Loughborough University in 2002 and has illustrated books for well-known authors such as Giles Andreae, Julia Donaldson and Jeanne Willis. Jess loves to draw and create funny characters that make people smile. She works in mixed media by scanning fabrics, scribbling, blobbing, mono-printing and photographing.

This book is just wonderful. A really lovely story, written beautifully with fantastic illustrations and great recipes. A real winner - for boys and girls.

I recently bought this book for a friend's 2 year old.....and she insisted on hearing it 3 times in a row, she loves it!
The illustrations are gorgeous and the recipes all sound yummy.
Lovely lovely lovely.

My daughter has just received this as a gift and I really enjoyed reading it. It is highly original in that Florentine plans a picnic complete with menu and then all the recipes are in the back of the book. My 5 year old daughter is very excited to try them out - will have to let you know.
The book is very girly (quite flowery) but my son was quite happen to listen to the story - [probably as he is only 3.)
The best part of the story is when it is all hands on deck preparing the picnic: pig gets all the good tasks - he slurped, sloshed, laughed and licked whilst poor Florentine just got to chop, chunk dice and dance.... Charming illustrations. Destined to be a favourite in our house - if the book doesn't get too sticky from trying out the recipes.
Like any new kids' product, the commercialisation starts on day one so the accompanying website is up and running with links to Ocado which is a bit off putting. There are some fairly barmy craft ideas there. Personally, I prefer the book. The website is definitely aimed at little girls and their yummy mummies.
