This is the perfect means of armchair travelling around Florence's art, architecture & history. It could also be used as an add-on for an intelligent visitor who wants more information than guidebooks provide. It does not give opening times etc, but it does provide excellent little maps of neighbourhoods & buildings, and is profusely illustrated in colour with superb photos of buildings, paintings and sculpture. The text is aimed at the intelligent reader who wants a lot of information in a compact form (it measures 5 x 5 inches with over 550 pages of text). Superb.

This is a must-have book for anyone who plans to visit Florence. I have been there, and I am telling you, there is nothing in there worth seeing, that is not included in this great book. Hundreds of pictures, I have consulted it from time to time, to recall something about Florence and the sites I visited. Plain writing, no fancy historical or art jargon, very thorough and amusing. Straight to the point, no critics of the works of art or sites, cites them all lets the reader decide which to visit.
Great value money book.
ok : Buy this if: You want a reference book-travel guide. Not to spend lots of money in a fancy tourist guide that will include only the "5 stars" of Firenze.
x: Don't buy this if: You are looking for a art book with big pictures. If you are not interested in places and art works of less known significance.

Yes this has everything needed for a Florence lover with an abundance of information and pictures.
Best of all is the size which makes holding for old hands much easier withought giving up the pleasures of much larger editions.

Excellent book
Took this book with us on a cultural weekend to Florence and it was really helpful, helped me to understand why theres so much art there and what happened in the Renaissance.
