Reading a Katie Fforde book is such a comforting, enjoyable, lovely experience. The plots may follow a similar pattern, but characters and vocations differ enough to keep things interesting and new. Flora is a fun, young breath of fresh air as she arrives in the country to join the family antiques business. Her uptight cousin Charles and his fiance Annabelle are obvious in their disdain and assume she'll be easily bought out. Flora surprises them and herself by enjoying the business and fighting to make it profitable. The unwanted attraction that both Flora and Charles, opposites in the extreme, begin to feel is fun to follow and satisfying to see in the end. I'm crossing my fingers that Fforde continues to write books that are similar to Flora's Lot for many years to come.

Having been slightly disapponited with Ms Fforde's last book, I was very pleasantly surprised to find this book such a page-turner. I managed to read almost the whole book in one sitting on a lovely sunny Sunday and was desperate to reach the conclusion on Monday!
This is a story that will appeal to a wide audience with romance, comedy and mystery in a nicely mixed package.

Flora's Lot is another triumph for Katie. Flora's a scrappy city girl who decides to take on the challenge of the family auction house, despite not knowing anything about the business. She's frostily greeted by her very, very *distant* cousin and his fiancé, an odd preppy woman (well, I found her odd!) As usual, Katie develops an inviting cast of supporting players who round the plot out and make it human and believable. Flora's fey, but not flighty and you find yourself rooting for her early on. Another one of Katie's specialties is delving deep into different worlds, in this case the world of the auction and weaving that world into the personal relationships you form with the key players. Excellent book, wonderful fiction!

You cant go wrong with a Katie Fforde book - they are always guaranteed to make you smile and keep you reading till the end, and this, her 11th title, doesnt disappoint. Flora has sub-let her flat and her life in London to join the family antique business in the country which she inherits a majority share in. With her pitiful knowledge of the business limited to re-runs of the Antiques Roadshow, she's hardly an ideal partner in the firm, but what she lacks in experience she makes up for in enthusiasm. Packed full of great characters, I loved the uptight Annabelle - and with a great story, I got a real warm glow from reading thsi book. This will make my read-over-and-over-again list for sure.

I read Flora's Lot just a few days after re-reading one of my favourite Heyer novels - The Grand Sophy. Clearly this is also one of Katie Fforde's favourites too, since there are so many similarities between the two books! However, Flora's Lot is a beautifully updated version of the Regency romance and an enjoyable read in its own right. More light-hearted than some of Fforde's other books, this hits just the right tone for a beach read. Enjoy.

Katie Fforde specializes in stories about more or less ordinary people with a hodge podge of challenges that are nicely overcome to most everyone's satisfaction in the end. Her characters are so endearing you wish you could go on reading about them.
Flora's Lot is a lovely mix of familiar Fforde components: a bit about art, a bit about stately homes, a bit about country life, and of course a character like Flora, who finds her city self mired in country life and not sure about the whole mix. Fforde has done some fine research into her heroine's new and challenging lifestyle and career, and this book should put to rest one reader's complaints that she knows nothing of 'real' country life. She seems to know quite a bit about the romantic notions we all have about lifestyles different from our own, and about our insecurities when faced with life fairly radically different from what we think it is or should be. And as always, her people adjust quite well, surprising themselves if not those around them or the reader, in being able not only to 'cope' but to shine. My only complaints about Fforde's books are, when I start reading one, I can't seem to put it down until it's finished, thereby losing a lot of sleep (I'm a slow reader). And when I'm done, I wish there was more to read (which would only make me lose more sleep or more time I should be spending on house work or something).

This was the first book that I read of Katie Fforde's and I loved it! It may not be the most complicated or action packed love story but it was heart warming and easy to form an attachment to.

I've since read a few other of Katie's books and I find them all as addictive as Flora's Lot.

I recommend this book to any ol' softy!
