As the title says there are instructions to make 20 bags in this book. The book caught my eye because the bag on the front is so pretty but the ones inside are just as lovely. The book is divided into sections. The first is Getting started which talks about inspiration, materials and equipment. I'd say that if you already sew or embroider you will probably have most or all equipment required. The next section is called techniques and gives instructions for 12 embroidery stitches with clear'how to' pictures for each stitch as well as photos of the real thing. What I love about this book is the variety of materials used to embroider the flowers. Not just embroidery silks but wool tapestry yarns, a variety of knitting yarns and a variety of embellishments. The next technique is about assembling the different types of bag - flat, with a base, clutch. Then come the instructions for bags in spring, summer, autumn and winter. There are 5 for each season. Finally there are templates and resources. For the benefit of our American friends all of the resource providers are in England with 1 in Wales but I'm sure you'll have plenty of places you can get your materials or buy on line. The templates are I'm afraid not full size. They have to be increased by photo copier. I'm a bit lazy so not a fan of this but the author does give actual measurements so I reckon it would be possible to make your pattern free hand quite easily. As already mentioned by an earlier reviewer, there are no actual patterns to follow for the placement of your embroidery. Instead the author asks you to draw your design using the main photograph of the bag as a guide. If you don't embroider already I'd say don't be put off by this. I think the ability to draw the design and personalise it by maybe putting more of one flower or less of another or making some parts bigger or smaller is an excellent idea. Do you really want to slavishly follow a pattern to the T? If so, then maybe this book isn't for you. But if you're up for using your imagination and can recognise that there is no such thing as wrong in art then it's definitely for you.
