Product Description

Flooded England, 2216 - Lilly Melkun has outwitted the bloodthirsty Reavers, who prowl the waters that cover most of England - and escaped to Cambridge. But Lilly is far from safe, because stil in her keeping is PSAI, the last hand-held computer in existence - a now malfunctioning treasure from the past. Inside the jewellike computer, is a sinister looking chip with an unknown purpose. Worse follows, when the professors of Cambridge plug it into an ancient mainframe computer setting in motion a fiery chain of eents leading back to London. A false, anti-terrorist alert has been activated. Strange, out-of-control robots from a long-ago technological time, threaten to use 'maximum force' to control everything in their way. Once again, it's up to Lilly, Zeph and friends to save the world from burning

By Steve Benner TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Paperback
Readers who enjoyed Emily Diamand's début novel, "Reavers' Ransom" will be delighted to know that Lilly Melkum's tale continues in "Flood and Fire" more or less where the earlier book left off. The great battle between the Raiders and English may be over, but the strife is far from over and Lilly, Cat and Lexy (and, of course PSAI) are anything but safe, while Zeph also has trouble to contend with as he struggles to restore order to the Angel Isling family in the wake of his father's death.

This book provides the gripping and action-packed completion to the tales of Lilly and Zeph, wrapping most things up nicely (and yet still leaving scope for additional tales to follow.) The writing is every bit as refreshing and sparkling as the earlier volume and the pages positively fly by.

As with the first volume, this is a very grown-up book for children (or else a very playful book for adults) trumping even the earlier book in its hilarious yet poignant goings-on. Emily Diamand manages to pack a tremendous number of ideas, action, humour, pathos, horror and excitement into this story which is simultaneously both huge fun and tremendously thought-provoking. "Reavers' Ransome" was a very good book; its sequel is an excellent book! Full marks!

Lilly has the last handheld computer in the world in her possession and a gripping train of events is set into action when it is plugged into an old mainframe computer. This thought-provoking story is set in the year 2216 when floodwaters cover most of England and strange out-of-control robots threaten to take over control. Why are the English in danger? Can Lilly, Zeph and friends save the world? A chilling story, full of unexpected twists and turns, which makes us think about what the future can hold. What monsters are we creating?

A great story 7 Oct 2010
Format:Paperback
This is the second story following Lily, Zeph and Lexy. With the Raiders, the English and the Scottish all fighting for power, we follow these three as they have to make difficult choices and decide where their loyalties lie.
