5.0 out of 5 stars The best book I have ever read!, 27 Jan 2005
By Lauren Hibbert (Kirkby-in-Ashfield, Notts United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
My dad desperately wanted me to read this book. He read it years ago, and said it is still the best book he ever read.
Brian Callison has you captivated from the very beggining. You are reading the journal of Mister Kent written while aboard his ship (the Cyclops) during the war, and found twenty-five years later. It is brilliantly written and by the end of the book you feel that you know the character well, and that you have shared his experiences. If you don't know alot about ships and being at sea in general then keep a dictionary beside you, it helps with unfamiliar terminology.
It really is the best book I ever read, and a fantastic read for any lover of war stories.

4.0 out of 5 stars Awsome, 29 Feb 2004
Once started reading I finished it straight to the end.

The story is rather unexpected and setup brillantly. Callison keeps you triggered untill the end. If you like maritime books you sure must have this one.

Have fun reading

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent adventure story, 7 April 2009
By Comical Engineer "comicaleng" (UK) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)
Brian Callison has written numerous seafaring novels and is probably best known for the "Trapp" series. This is not a Trapp novel and is, in fact, much better. I will not spoil the story, suffice to say that this is a well written adventure novel which will keep you engrossed from page 1.

Briefly, the MV Cyclops is found in aa land locked harbour by a visiting ship along with the wreckage of a U-boat. The story unfolds with the reading of the log of the last survivor of the Cyclops and is full of twists and turns.

One of the best sea / war stories I've ever read!

5.0 out of 5 stars An absolutely classic novel of the war at sea
Simply a brilliant read. Anyone who has an interest in the sea or war will be fascinated, even if (like me) you normally only read non-fiction. Read more
