5.0 out of 5 stars An absolute must!, 7 April 2005
This review is from: Floating Verses (Audio CD)
If you're a fan of the traditional music of Great Britain, this album is a must. Mary Humphreys has a long history in folk clubs and has sourced rarely recorded versions of traditional songs as collected by the likes of Cecil Sharp & Frank Kidson. Anahata provides expert instrumentation on Melodeon, Anglo Concertina & Cello, and is joined by Dave Holland (fiddle), Gina Holland (recorder) & Chris Amos (Guitar) to stunning effect, particularly on "Cambridge May Song", "Geld Him Lasses..." (a wonderful instrumental), and "Blow The Candles Out" (which currently rates as my favourite traditional tune of the year). If you like your "folk" music as it should be, performed by accomplished performers with their roots firmly in the tradition, I would thoroughly recommend this album. In fact, I'm off to listen to it again now!
