There is a cycle multi-tool included in the box, but you may want to use 'proper' tools to make the job easier. I found a socket set and adjustable spanner made light work of the assembly. The only things to watch for are the pedals (which are Left Hand/Right Hand and need to be fitted on the corresponding side) and getting the front wheel on. The instruction manual says to "make sure the brakes are loose enough to fit the wheel" but if you deflate the tyre, it slips between the brakes without any adjustment.
I noticed the chain was extremely tight (no play at all), so it might be worth checking and if you find the same, just slighty slacken the nuts on the rear wheel to reduce the tension (remembering to tighten them up!).
As mentioned by other reviews, it's much more lime green than the yellow in the product picture. This shouldn't be a problem for any child, as it's a really funky colour. The forks are black on the bike I received. I have some images to upload which should be on the review soon.
I think there have been comments on the hard saddle too. OK, it's not the most padded seat I've ever seen but my BMX, when I was a kid, had a solid plastic saddle and it never bothered me. This is a kids bike, and they don't get bothered by insignificant things like sore bums!
Overall, great bike, funky colour scheme and easy enough to put together in 30 minutes max.
- its looks good and is cheap
- its fast and easy to assemble
- it come with a kick stand
- Seat is hard
- brakes squeak
-its a very good bike for the money and looks good. if you want a cheap bmx this is the one for you.
You will have to excuse me in this bit - I am not a speaker of tech-talk when it comes to bikes.
When you get the bike, ensure that the forks on the front wheel are the right way round. Although the instructions don't mention this, you will probably need to turn the forks (easily done) to ensure the brake mechanism is in FRONT of the forks, not the back. Presumably, it ships with them the other way round so it fits in the box better.
The welding and tooling on the front forks (once you have it correct way round) is not great. I can slip a finger between one side of the fork and the wheel, and my whole hand between the other side of the fork and the wheel. Sitting on the bike, the wheel is clearly off- centre, and this impacts on how well the front brakes work because you get excessive play on the one side, and zero impact on the other. It can be adjusted - slightly - with a socket set, but at the end of the day, the tooling is dreadful and that wheel is always going to be out.I think we're probably going to go to the bike shop and get a new fork, which is a shame on a brand new bike.
But, you gets whats you pays for, I guess. It was half the price of stuff from Halfords that have had far worse reviews. In short, spend £70.00. Have some cash left over to replace the shoddy workmanship, and it's a pretty nice bike.
