Product Description

The sensational new novel from the New York Times bestselling author featuring her vampire-hunting heroine Anita Blake. When Anita Blake meets with prospective client Tony Bennington, who is desperate to have her reanimate his recently deceased wife, she is full of sympathy for his loss. Anita knows something about love, and she knows everything there is to know about loss. But what she also knows, though Tony Bennington seems unwilling to be convinced, is that the thing she can do as a necromancer isn't the miracle he thinks he needs. The creature that Anita could coerce to step out of the late Mrs. Bennington's grave would not be the lovely Mrs. Bennington. Not really. And not for long.

This book is NOT full length - its more on the lines of a novella .(over 20 pages wasted on how the idea for the book was arrived at!!!!)
This should have been made clear to buyers .
The story has no depth and glosses over the characters relationships .
Would not buy without checking number of pages in future

This book does not live up to the high standard of the first nine Anita Blake books. That said, it is refreshing to read about Anita's career as a necromancer again. With all the toyboys she's been getting lately we haven't heard too much about her work.

This is a short book, it took me about 2 hours to read. The plot did not strike me as being original - Anita has starred in far too many kidnap scenes in the past and brings nothing new to them now. The 'Tony Bennington' character reminded me forcefully of the Harold character in the Laughing Corpse.

Without spoiling the plot of this book for others, it pivots on the fact that men find Anita irresistable, yet she herself finds this hard to accept. Its getting somewhat tired and overworked as a format.

Disappointing, but mildly so.

I was an avid reader of the Anita Blake books when they were supernatural thrillers but my interest tailed off when they changed to soft porn. It was almost as if Laurell K Hamilton was told to spice them up a bit and didn't know when to stop. I decided to give this one another chance based on the synopsis and was somewhat pleased to discover only one sex scene lasting only seven pages, but there again the story is only 155 pages long. On that note nothing much happens for almost the first fifty pages, I know this is aimed at a female audience who like a little more character interraction but pages devoted to Anita and her lovers chatting in a restaurant is just padding in my eyes. When the action does get going the writing is up to the usual standards and it was nice to see Anita operating on her own for a change. It would be even better to see her having an all new action adventure with no sex in it, how about a prequel? Back when she wasn't a promiscuous tart. The book is rounded out by a short section where Laurel explains how the story came about, shouldn't have bothered, doesn't add anything.

Short but enjoyable
I thought this book was enjoyable, but short. I weren't expecting it to end as soon as it did, I feel that maybe she could have put more into it. Read more

Disappointed
I didn't realise this was almost a separate book to the series. Not sure I'd have bothered with it if I had .
Not up to her usual standard

Novella posing as a novel.
Before I get into the meat of my review, buyers need to be aware that this is a novella pretending to be a novel. Read more

Feel short changed, should of been in an anthology..
This is not a stand alone book, i think it should of been in an anthology of stories as it is the thinnest and shortest book at only 177 pages. Read more
