It Does What It Says On The Tin,
By
This review is from: Flip Video Tripod (Electronics)
As I say in my title, it does what it says on the tin. It suits me perfectly because I just wanted something to keep my camcorder steady. If you're looking for a big tripod then obviously you wouldn't buy this little mini one, but if you just want an inexpensive little tripod that does the job, this is perfect. The legs bend so you can adjust the angle which is useful.
I often use it with my mini camcorder even when I am filming while walking around, because I find it easier to keep the camcorder steady when holidng it by gripping the tripod with both hands than by holding the mini camcorder itself like a mobile phone. The fact that the legs fold up is especially useful for this because I can fold them up as though my camcorder is attached to a stick making it easy to get a good grip, but when I need to stand the camcorder on a table, I can do by unfolding the legs. When you do want whatever you intend to attach the tripod to to be completely still you will need a table to put it on otherwise you will be filming on the ground looking up at your subject. You would probably want to buy a large tripod with long legs designed to suit that purpose if you know you are going to be filming situations when there isn't something to put it on. However, where this tripod is really beneficial is when you just want a tripod you can easily take with you wherever you go. This is perfect in that case because it is so small and lightweight. It is made by the people who make flip video cameras and is aimed at being used with those, but they can be used with any device that has a standard tripod connection - I have used it with other mini camcorders and my digital camera. One of the most popular type of tripods this size is the gorillapod. I have to say it probably isn't as good as that because that has more flexible legs. For that reason mostly, I gave it 4 stars instead of 5, I also considered the fact that it won't suit everyone because it isn't as suitable for some things as larger tripods, it really does depend what you want it for. So, for me it's perfect, you will have to consider whether it suits your needs.

Flip tripod,

It's a small tripod that fits a standard screw tripod fitting. Legs are bendy - but have a certain amount of spring in them, making precise positioning more difficult than for other small tripods at similar cost. The black finish on the legs flakes off from the moment the legs are first bent. This covers hands in small black particles, which is messy.

Flip Video Tripod,

I bought this to use with my new Flip camera. It seems sturdy and well made and best of all small enough to carry around in a pocket or handbag. The three legs give it good stability and some degree of angling the camera can be achieved by moving the legs. It is most stable when all three legs are firmly on a hard surface and this works well for filming anything directly in front of the camera. Where the tripod is lacking is that it isn't very stable if you try to position it to film up or down at an angle - a small degree of tilt can be achieved but not as much as with some other versions of tripods. The top of the tripod screws firmly into the Flip camera base and holds it securely in place. I liked that there were different coloured feet to use. The most sensible look was with the standard black rubber feet it already has attached. However, I couldn't help myself and I had to try each of the colours out - I did go back to the black in the end. I think for outdoor use or for more flexibility of filming from above or below then I might look at getting another tripod - I didn't really think about this when I first purchased it.
