A guard whose own sister was lost to the Brotherhood and a mysterious conman who knows more than he's letting on join him in his search for his family. But if Tamison/Sueldan is to rescue them from slavery, he must discover his own wings and take flight. This is a riveting tale of growth and redemption set in a mediaeval fantasy world. Strong characterisation and a personal quest make this a cut about a lot of generic fantasy.

This book is not of the same order of work as the Renshai trilogies. The Basic plot is pretty standard with rebelious boy losing everything (including sanity), growing up to be a bit of a loser. Gaining family (children, long suffering wife) losing family by stealing food and ending up in prison. After prison he has a voyage of discovery while searching for his family, standard friends arrive on the journey. No real suprises until a little twist in the last quarter of the book which was unsual. Enjoyably writen and easy to read. A good book for those ideal hours of relaxation where concentration and intensity are not desired.

When he was fifteen, a mine cave-in trapped Tamison for two days and killed his older brother, father, and uncle. For three years Tamison struggled but failed to overcome his fear of the underground. His remaining family fell on hard times until his mother informs him that his thirteen-year-old sister is to get married. A guilt-laden Tamison eventually marries and has children, but cannot keep them fed because the guilds operate everything. Desperate, he tries to steal food, but is caught and sentenced to two years on a chain gang.
When he is freed, Tamison finds his family missing. He learns from a guard that the leader of a nearby city abducted his family and turned them into slaves. Now he begins to attempt a rescue that will leave him wondering who is telling the truth and what really happened to his family?
Overall, FLIGHTLESS FALCON is an interesting fantasy that starts off extremely slow, but once moving (about half way through the book) rapidly takes off in several fascinating directions. Tamison is an intriguing character struggling with a trauma in an unforgiving world. The support cast, especially Tamison's two traveling companions, help propel the story line forward. However, fans will need patience with the story line's snail pace in Mickey Zucker Reichert's latest tale.

Flightless Falcon Takes Off

Not a bad read, although certainly not the best. While it has interesting plot turns you have to wade through a lot of story line before it picks up. In short, not bad for a slow Sunday afternoon but if you things to do you can live another day without reading this book.

At the age of 15, Tamison loses his father, brother and uncle in a mining accident....then goes to prison, aka chain gang for 2 years for stealing, and when he gets released, finds out his wife and children are gone. Told by a guard, that they were taken as slaves, the story picks up. Here you meet two other interesting charaters, Rifkah and Con.
I personally thought this book was a fanastic read, I found Con as my favorite guy. Very mysterious and you don't really get to truly know him until pretty close to the end. I just hope there is a second book to the Flightless Falcon, because it stopped badly, and I want to read more. Keep up the good work Mickey!
