Flight of Renshai 11 Dec 2009
Format:Hardcover
This is an incredible series of books from an author of unsurpassed skill! I have been a collector of Mickey Zucker Reichert since I first read The Legend of Nightfall! The Renshai are brilliantly illustrated and encompass a broad understanding of Norse Mythology and History!
Under any guise these books stand alone from other fantasy works for their flawless portrayal of historical events in a fantastical setting!
I would greatly recommend these books to anybody who enjoys reading fantasy novels, and also to general interest readers as they will find these books thought provoking and highly expansive!

A Glorious Read 5 Sep 2009
By Laura Miller - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
Mickey Zucker Reichert manages the near impossible: coming up with new plot twists that surprise the reader yet feel completely right. Favorite characters from the previous two (also highly recommended) Renshai trilogies appear, but you don't need to have read the earlier books to appreciate this one. The characters - old and new - develop in interesting ways, and they grapple with problems personal and communal, universal and unique, in a world that, for all the fantasy elements, rings true from sheltered towns to gritty battlefields. Here's to speeding on the next book!
Good book, will read the next 3 May 2012

This was a good book. It has been years since I read the second trilogy so it took a little time to remember all of the plot lines (I should have read the reviews of their reviews to brush up first). Regardless, it has a very good storyline(s), kept my attention and will be anxious to read book 2 of this trilogy.

Was happy to see Colby pop up a couple of times and I hope to see him in the future.
After 6 great Renshai books, Flight of the Renshai is a dud... 16 Mar 2012
By Brian Hawkinson - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I seem to be going against the grain here. I've read both Renshai trilogies and absolutely loved them. Granted, that was over a decade ago, but from what I remember they are among some of my favorite fantasy books. The Flight of the Renshai was hard pressed to catch my interest, which was a huge disappointment.

The previous Renshai books all focused on the Renshai and, of course, their Norse gods and magic. That was what brought the series to life next to the crazy great swordsmanship of the Renshai. In this installment the gods are next to non-existent and the magic is so little and comes so late in the book that it is as well next to non-existent. Right away I was not liking this. Then you get the character development that was just okay, if a bit two dimensional. The dialogue was forced way too much and the plot line was almost juvenile and predictable.

I don't know how many times I rolled my eyes when something came up. For example, Treysind (sp?) wandering lost in a forest and can't find Calistan so what does he do? Oh, that's right, he decides to teach himself how to make a bow and arrow, and then go out and expertly use it to hunt food. Then he teaches himself how to live off the forest, oh and then decides he is going to cook everything perfectly so that the aroma will spread through the forest and Calistan will be lured to it and voila he found him. C'mon, really? Looks more like Reichert wrote herself in to a hole and couldn't figure out how to get out of it.

All in all there were some okay moments and some glimpses of the Renshai that I so previously loved, but the writing seemed to leave you wanting. Perhaps its been too long since writing this series? Whatever it is I was very disappointed and couldn't wait to be finished with it.

2 stars.
