This group is unique in its instrumentation, inspired in its broadness of repertoire and flamboyant in the musical cornucopia it purveys. Following their debut CD And This Is One Of Them... , Eclectica! Have drawn on their diverse experiences to produce in their second CD, a musical smorgasbord of exceptional scintillating appeal. The breadth of repertoire that the group purveys may best be illustrated by considering the venues they have performed at; since the release of the first album, the group have played sold-out concerts at: Ronnie Scott s, The Wigmore Hall, Oxford Jazz Festival and Buxton Opera Festival, to name a few. Flight Of Fancy has taken the eclectic objective several leaps beyond the first album, bringing to the party Meier s love of Turkish and gypsy music. Mixing this with Pete Oxley s flair for melodic writing (which is as much influenced by Vaughan Williams as it is by Pat Metheny), the album offers 10 diverse pieces: 5 originals and 5 arrangements by either Meier or Oxley. Giving credence to the group s name, Eclectica! Might typically perform in one concert tangos from Argentina, sambas from Brazil, standards from North America and works by Joni Mitchell, The Beatles and Zoltan Kodály! Not only is the repertoire entirely eclectic, the musical experiences of the band-members shows the same diversity.
