A stunningly illustrated scientific journal of the fantastic, 21 Nov 2001

This review is from: The Flight of Dragons (Paperback)
Ever since I saw the film at the age of seven, made it my mission to find the book it was based upon. Unfortunately, it never actually occured to me to check somewhere as obvious as this (and naturally Amazon didn't exist then anyway). Twelve years later I found it at random in an aquantance's house and discovered where she got it - here. I devoured it in one evening, and discovered that this slim volume is one of the most convincing scientific arguments you could possibly have for something so fantastical by nature. I am a lover of fantasy for fantasy's sake, not of proving it as fact. However, after reading this book, I fully believe what he himself said: the existence of dragons is not that plausible at all - but it's every bit as plausible as their non-existence. Believe what you like, this is worth a read - and a look, since Wayne Anderson's sumptuous full colour illustrations are a joy to behold, whether depicting classic fantasy dragons, or the more realistic design of Peter Dickenson's own from a scientific viewpoint. Read it. Be enchanted. Visit the last remnants of the Fantasy Realm, preserved for eternity in it's own little bubble that no one may visit, 'but for the duration of a day-dream or for a flash of inspiration'...

A thoughtful representation of a fantastic creature, 5 May 2001

This review is from: The Flight of Dragons (Paperback)
Ever since I saw the film as a very small child, dragons have always inspired me in every aspect of my life, and this book is a ray of light in a world of myths. The scientific arguements, backed up by an unswerving belief in dragons, will make you believe that dragons did exist as the author quietly weaves his own dreams into scientific fact. I love this book, as will anyone who ever had a dream or made a wish.

An incredible read for fans of science or fiction, 4 April 2001

This review is from: The Flight of Dragons (Paperback)
A masterful novel discussing, with remarkable detail, the logistics behind the lives of dragons. It contains convincing arguments discussing dragon fire and dragon flight. The book also serves as a philosophical argument, dealing with the natural struggle between science and faith, dealing with the issue of whether both can exist together? Finally, for fans of the film, it is a must. The issues covered in it are displayed much more clearly and it will greatly enhance your understanding of the film. This book will touch nerves and inspire you for the rest of your life.
