Ever since I saw the film at the age of seven, made it my mission to find the book it was based upon. Unfortunately, it never actually occured to me to check somewhere as obvious as this (and naturally Amazon didn't exist then anyway). Twelve years later I found it at random in an aquantance's house and discovered where she got it - here. I devoured it in one evening, and discovered that this slim volume is one of the most convincing scientific arguments you could possibly have for something so fantastical by nature. I am a lover of fantasy for fantasy's sake, not of proving it as fact. However, after reading this book, I fully believe what he himself said: the existence of dragons is not that plausible at all - but it's every bit as plausible as their non-existence. Believe what you like, this is worth a read - and a look, since Wayne Anderson's sumptuous full colour illustrations are a joy to behold, whether depicting classic fantasy dragons, or the more realistic design of Peter Dickenson's own from a scientific viewpoint. Read it. Be enchanted. Visit the last remnants of the Fantasy Realm, preserved for eternity in it's own little bubble that no one may visit, 'but for the duration of a day-dream or for a flash of inspiration'...
