Fleshmarket, by Nicola Morgan is an unusual story, based on real life characters, dates and prejudices in the 1800s. However don't let the book's historial herritage put you off. Based in Edinburgh in the 1800s, Morgan takes her own approach to liven up the old story of Dr Knox and his illegal dealings with Hare and Burke.
Robbie, who lost his mother at the hands of Dr Knox when she recieved surgery to remove her cancerous brest, is out for revenge. His life is full of ups and downs and his life's path finds numeous ways to cross his enemy's path, Dr Knox. Filled with fixation to get revenge on Knox, Robbie's life takes uncharted dips in it's quality each time he meets Knox.
Can he ever break away from this hate or will he just carry on living this nothing life for the rest of his days?
Fleshmarket is an ideal book for all ages and genders. I found my usually hard to please mum wraped up in the contents of this uplifting book. Dr Knox is a well known figure from our past and also the familularity of the names Burke and Hare give the unpleasant feeling you've ben told this story at the dead of night before.
