Viv Albertine - Flesh EP (Ecstatic Peace)
Returning to the music business after a 25-year break, ex-Slit Viv Albertine rejoins the fray with a four song EP released on Thurston Moore's Ecstatic Peace label. She doesn't seem to have mellowed too much over the years, and although her songs are less purposely antagonistic than I remember them being, there's still plenty of regret, anger and irritation on show.
Musically the presentation (production) is post-punk, positive and ultimately, inviting. The bite is in the words - after all she's an ex-Slit, the main songwriter in a band that rarely held back when it came to expressing an opinion. In her own words, Flesh is: "a collection of twisted lyrics, mind-worm melodies and kinky boots!" That's the quote they should put on the posters. 8/10.
