Product Description

The Flesh Creeping Gonzoid is a 6 CD set that comes in a box adorned with lurid glossy artwork, complete with individual wallets and full colour booklet. All discs are over an hour in length and feature ALL of Andrew Liles' compilation appearances, rare and out of print recordings, many studio outtakes, alternative versions and hours of unreleased recordings. Limited to 500 copies. Andrew's music in his own right is never predictable, always invigorating, sometimes infuriating, usually challenging, but never boring... and very much complements the material he works on with Current 93 and Nurse With Wound.

It is very hard to describe the "music" of Andrew Liles (AL) without a subjective point of view taking priority. Let me explain.

Within the realm of ambient music I find there are two kinds. 'Passive' ambient and 'Dynamic/active' ambient. Dissimilar to say the passive ambience of the group 'GAS'Nah Und Fern(for example), AL fills up his spacious, minimalist ambience with found sounds, strange tweekings and an odd assortment of, well, I can't exactly say what (liner notes are mum on this).

It seems he is taking the concept of foreground vs background ambience, getting the listener to be lulled say into the music as background fill (you know, the kinda stuff to relax or read through)....then just when you are inclined to accept the stuff as THAT, he goes into a foreground mode by introducing such odd strange stuff which causes the listener to suddenly look around the room and ask "did I just hear that? Did it come from the cd?, or am I having a flashback? Why are my house cats' looking around as if they can see ghosts? Is my house shifting on its foundation? Did an intruder just force open the back room window? Is something living in the walls of my house...is it human?" You get the idea perhaps.

If investigating this as an experimental music offering by an artist unknown to most, I suppose there is some chance that this might fit the bill for those inclined to add unusual stuff to their collection. It would be fair to say that Andrew Liles dwells in the same neighborhood as Current 93 or Nurse With Wound. Well, at least in the same magikal county.

The packaging is sublime (see amazon product description).
