4.0 out of 5 stars Another Rodale success 21 Mar 2010
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
As mentioned in one of my previous reviews I am a huge fan of the Rodale Quilt Book Series. The books are clear, well illustrated and informative. I'm a novice quilter and do not have time to attend dedicated quilting classes or seminars. Consequently, I am dependant on instruction from books. These books are not designed to be "eye candy" but to communicate techniques effectively which they do extremely well. This book will show you how to construct the quilt "sandwich", how to hold your needle, hide knots, turn corners etc. It is practical not theoretical.

After reading other people's reviews on Rodale's Quilting Library books I just had to start buying up the collection and I have been so pleased with them all. They are concise and you will find yourself going back to the books again and again for tips and advice on how to do everything to do with patchwork and quilting.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book! 24 Oct 2003
By LAL - Published on
This is an excellent book, with photos and tips on every page. There are sections on thimbles, markers, batting, frames, and hoops. Skill sections provide detailed instructions along with the photos for basting, starting, stopping, and sliding your stitch. Additional sections discuss trapunto, stippling, country style quilting, and tying. Exercises and practice ideas are provided to learn the techniques presented.
The best chapter explains that anxiety producing phrase, "quilt as desired"! I also really appreciated the photos of beginner, intermediate and prize-winning quilting. It made me feel better about what I can do now and gave me a goal to work toward.
I found this book to be an excellent resource! The instructions are easy to follow, yet detailed and the many photos are very helpful. It's like having a quilting teacher at home with you all the time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thorough and Informative 24 Mar 2003
By S. L. Stewart - Published on
This book is all about handquilting, and gives great information on the entire process from choosing batting, threads, thimbles, and basting methods, and includes color photos for each step explained. Handquilting is time consuming, but is by no means hard to learn. This book will provide beginners with all the information they need, and is an excellent volume to own for reference.

5.0 out of 5 stars I really liked this book 26 Sep 2005

This book has some really great pictures and explainations to help with all aspects of getting a quilt top quilted and choosing the supplies to do it with. If you haven't actually seen someone do a quilt stitch, a book is not going to be able to show you how, but it's better than nothing. I have seen someone quilt, but not much. At least now I have a good quide and have been able to experiment with what I have read and seen in this book. I am glad I bought this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great details for improving your hand quilting. 14 Jun 2010
By Abigail England - Published on
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
Quilting has been increasing with popularity but hand quilting seems to have been tossed by the wayside. Too many new quilters forget about the quilting, leaving it to someone else to do on a machine. This book helps with the questions that a new quilter needs answered so she can begin to put the finishing touch on that heirloom quilt she just created. Believe me, your children and grandchildren will love the finished project more with your hand quilting on their keepsake quilt.
