As its title suggests, this nicely illustrated book reveals the delights of Iraqi food - a cuisine that remains largely unknown and untasted in Britain. Many of the dishes featured have similar flavours to Lebanese food so if you like the restaurants on the Edgware Road, you'll like the recipes in this book!

As with most cookery books, Flavours of Babylon is divided up into three sections covering starters, main courses and desserts. The recipes are easy to follow and the ingredients are readily found in large supermarkets. One word of warning - Iraqi-style cooking is not something that can be rustled up in a hurry. That said, if you have an afternoon to spare and fancy making something a bit different, then I thoroughly recommend Linda Dangoor's excellent book.

I first came across this book in a newspaper, which included one of the macaroon recipes which was wonderful and have made a few times now. Then I travelled in Armenia, which has a similar cuisine and had a better introduction to this style of cookery so I bought the book.
So far, the recipes I have tried have all worked, and I have enjoyed reading the book and the family history behind some of the dishes. As it is a family cookbook quantities are for 4 - 6 so I generally only cook from this when entertaining. The recipes take time, as good cooking often has to do, but are not particularly complicated and do not require advanced techniques, you just need to follow the instructions, which are very good. I have loved everything I have cooked from this book and it has opened my eyes to a new world of tastes. I look forward to using it again and again.

Flavours of Babylon is a fantastic book. When I first saw it, I didn't know where to start. The photos are mouth watering, let alone the recipes!!! So far I have tried two recipes and they were excellent.
I highly recommend the book. Even beginners will find no difficulty in following any recipe.
Good luck Linda !!! Keep the good work.
