More About the Author

Jeff Brown worked on the editorial staffs of The New Yorker, The Saturday Evening Post, Life, and Esquire magazines. He was inspired to write the original Flat Stanley story by a bedtime conversation he had with his two sons. The book, published in 1964 saw a perfectly normal boy, Stanley Lambchop flattened by his noticeboard - it left him happy and healthy, but only one-a-half inches thick, opening the door to a new life of adventures! He is soon sliding under doors, flying like a kite in the sky and even posted through the mail!

Since then Flat Stanley's classic adventures have been entertaining children for over 45 years and have sold several million copies worldwide. Jeff's other Flat Stanley books are Stanley and the Magic Lamp, Invisible Stanley, Stanley's Christmas Adventure, Stanley in Space, and Stanley, Flat Again! The original Flat Stanley is also available as a picture book.

Jeff Brown died in December 2003 aged 77.

As well as being a publishing phenomenon Flat Stanley is also a hugely successful schools project. Children from across the globe create and send paper Stanleys to other schools who host his visit and return him with a diary of what he has been up to and photos of his trip. In the ten years since the project has been running, he has also been 'hosted' by celebrities, politicians and sports stars. Some of his favourite hosts, pictured here include President Barack Obama, Muhammed Ali, Buzz Aldrin and Colin Farrell. He has also attended the Oscars with Clint Eastwood, travelled up Mount Everest and into space!

1.0 out of 5 stars Why is it called "Flat Stanley Magic"? 15 Jun 2008
There is a book in the stanley lambchop series called flat stanley and another one called stanley flat again, but those are the only books when stanley is flat. In either of these book in this combination, Stanley Lambchop is NOT flat so calling this combination "flat stanley magic" is wrong. Why not call it Stanley Lambchop magic or stanley magic? these books shouldn't be collectivly called the flat stanley books becase stanley is only flat in 2 of them and it is only making the public ignorant, so publishers, think about the content before you combine 2 books. that's all i have to say.
