From the Back Cover

[MAKE STAND OUT] Keep belly fat at bay with four (yes, four) meals a day!

For women (and men) over 40, belly fat is incredibly stealthy and extremely stubborn. It’s also the most deadly, contributing to a higher risk of heart disease, diabetes and chronic illness than any other type of fat on your body. Now science has helped to uncover a key dietary weapon in the fight against belly fat: monounsaturated fatty acids, or MUFAs for short. Studies have proven that these ‘good’ fats help dieters lose more weight specifically from their bellies.

This is an easy, safe, no-exercise solution for the body part you most want to change. You will not believe your eyes as your belly evaporates, your clothing feels looser and a slim waist appears. You will also feel the long-term health benefits of a reduced risk of diabetes, heart disease and cancer.

This groundbreaking eating plan offers:

· A four-day anti-bloat jumpstart, followed by a comprehensive four-week eating plan with delicious recipes

· Just three simple rules to follow to set you on your path to weight loss

· ‘Mind tricks’ – precise strategies to mentally commit to changing your life and body for ever

· Useful ways to prevent midlife weight gain by enhancing your health and wellbeing, reducing stress and sleeping more deeply

The Flat Belly Diet will lead you step by step, day by day, meal by meal towards a flatter belly … and a longer, healthier life.

2.0 out of 5 stars Calorie counting and weighing, 12 Jan 2009
This diet is based upon a 4 day 'anti-bloat' diet of 1200 calories, and then the actual programme consists of 4 x 400 calorie meals a day. If you follow this diet then you have to calorie count and weigh out ingredients. I wish that I had known this before I bought this book. Personally I am not of the inclination to measure my food and know the calorie count of all my ingredients. I don't want my every waking thought to be, 'how many calories are in this piece of broccoli?'...life's too short. So be warned.....Also this diet is not particularly vegetarian friendly and relies upon a lot of meat products, including processed meat such as Turkey rolls, yuk, and tinned fruit! Whilst I recognise that this diet will work for some people and they could achieve their objective, it was definately not for me.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy this book, 4 Feb 2009
I bought this book on a whim, and regretted it. I don't normally write reviews but this book annoyed me so much...

The 4 day anti bloat menu is basically a crash diet. It seems based on sound principles such as to avoid bloating you should eat less salt but then contradicts itself by including processed foods like cheese strings, and turkey slices from a packet - full of salt! It also includes in the evening meal difficult to follow instructions - e.g. 2oz of roast potatoes.. Is that home made? using how much oil? from a packet? And 2oz makes it hardly worthwhile anyway!

The 32 diet part does have the odd reasonable recipe - but most of them aren't up to much. The recipe in the back seem ok until you realise the weird method of adding an arbitrary extra bit of food to make it up to 400cals - a flat belly meal apparently. So you could have chicken roulade (chicken breast with a bit of spinach in it) and you might think to make that a meal you might add some brown rice or maybe a salad - nope they recommend an orange. Or how about ginger grilled soy chicken, what would you have with that oriental inspired recipe? - probably not hummus and peppers as suggested in this book.

Now all that might be fine for 32 days. But then you get to the end of the book and the authors recommend in order to keep to your figure you can stick to this diet for.... the rest of your life.

This book may have some interesting ideas in it, but the execution of the diet is dismal. Don't buy it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Flat Belly Diet Book, 2 May 2009
By Janet Elizabeth Isaacs (Spain) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This is a very informative book. Not so much about 'dieting' but about a very healthy way of eating and getting rid of the 'belly bloat'. I was already loving many of the recommended foods so am really enjoying this life style. I lost 5.6lbs doing the 4 day jump start! Give it a try!!
