5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for a niche subject., 21 Nov 2008
By Dave S. (Leeds, UK.) - See all my reviews
Lisa Larson is a well respected member of the Flash Video community, so if this is a subject you are looking to get into it would be a wise purchase to get yourself a copy of her book.

The book covers all the basics of Flash Video as well as taking you a step further by getting into the development side with the use of classes.

Lisa starts by helping you plan your project as well as helping you address your clients needs and then creating the roadmap that will help you deliver the goods.

Both progressive and RTMP video delivery are discussed, as well as cue points and the encoding of source video along with the pitfalls you should look out for.

As a basic action script coder, I did find some of the code samples heavy going, but then if was going to be easy everyone would be doing it.

Combine this book with Stefan Richter's Hands-On Guide to Flash Video: Web Video and Flash Media Server and you'll have all the information you need to get your video's playing over the web.

A highly recommended book for a subject that is still very niche.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not for beginners, 9 Oct 2009
By P. Ferbrache (United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This is a well written and informative book covering all aspects of flash video applications. Although I am an intermediate level web designer I struggled to really get going with flash video for a while as the author assumes a good working knowledge of flash development programmes such as Adobe flash professional. Once I had learnt the basics of using Adobe flash and publishing action scripts I found the book to be very helpful.
