Review

Published reviews of current edition:

"If you are looking into how to create online games and getting a better understanding of the powerful language that Actionscript is, you could do a lot worse than this book. The examples and explanations are clear and thorough... Nik does a good job of keeping the pace upbeat and making the reader feel involved... for those people who are interested in how to make games and how to improve their coding, it is a worthwhile investment."

Rather alarmingly it is now over 20 years since I wrote my first bit of code using a Sinclair Spectrum computer and Sinclair Basic. Read the first page

I thought the book would teach and show me how to write actionscript for games.
I'm so disappointed. The games are slow, they lack logic, like in the reversi-version (othello), where the computer's allowed to do illegal moves, you can also remove the pieces you don't want on the board, etc.
I tried the demos online, and concluded that this book is nothing I can use for my purpose: creating games people will come back to play again.
I think I'll stick to Gary Rosenzweig, he's code is much more effective, and the games WORK!
