Book Description

1 Dec 2000

Jayne Ann Krentz has delivered pure entertainment in twenty-three "New York Times" bestsellers, including her recent smash hit, "Sharp Edges." Now, her unique brand of electrifying suspense and head-over-heels romance lights up this sizzling thriller -- and sparks a curious chemistry between a self-made millionaire and a charmingly disorganized entrepreneur. They team up to corner a killer -- and find their unruly partnership has the power to set the night on fire....
Olivia Chantry may keep her desk in disarray, but she's a dynamo when it comes to business: her Seattle-based company, Light Fantastic, organizes dazzling events that create the flash her clients need to promote their products or their causes. Her marvelous success has almost made up for a marriage that ended in disaster and left her wedded to a career instead of a mate.
She certainly has enough on her well-sculpted shoulders when she inherits a portion -- 49 percent, to be precise -- of Glow, Inc., her uncle's high-tech lighting firm. But it's the interloper who bagged the other 51 percent with whom Olivia has butted heads: Jasper Sloan, a venture capitalist and dealmaker known as a man with all his ducks in a row, and his neat, orderly life under control.
From the start of their feisty business dealings, the so-called partners nearly crash and burn: they are suspicious of each other's motives. They disagree about management style. They argue about Glow's policy of employing members of the Chantry family, from Olivia's cousin Bolivar to her Aunt Zara, the ex-soap star. But the snap, crackle and pop of their sexual energy can not be denied. Now, their steamy joint venture is headed unmistakably in onedirection: trouble.
As Olivia and Sloan soon discover, a blackmailer is hard at work inside Glow, Inc., uncovering secrets that they both had reason to hide -- and that may come back to haunt them. Suddenly their new relationship faces the acid test of truth...and a need for absolute trust. They might fight each other all the way, but when extortion turns to murder, a union of their minds -- and hearts -- might be their only chance to stay alive.
Sparkling with Jayne Ann Krentz's irresistible blend of sassy wit and sheer suspense, "Flash" explodes into passionate pyrotechnics as a beautifully mismatched pair finds the bottom line isn't making it in the marketplace -- it's the merger of hearts.

1.0 out of 5 stars Flash but no lights! 13 April 1999

BAD! Didn't she just do this in a regency novel of hers? The characters...I have met them before...oh yes they are the same in all her books. For heaven's sake doesn't the author get bored cutting and pasting from her old books. AND this is a big AND, did anyone notice how Jasper's ex-wife's name was Andrea in the beginning and became Rachel Sands in the latter part of the book? Editor's just because she is an acclaimed writer does not mean you can do this to US your CUSTOMERS. In case everyone has missed the point WE BUY the books and if the errors are going to be so blaring then they need to have a warning on the book. I hate it when I spend money on a book and get absolutely nothing out of it except grammatical errors, bad storyline and "names" being confused. You get fired for stuff like that at a newspaper. Can I get a refund on my book at least???

3.0 out of 5 stars Same old, same old 14 Sep 1998

If you are new to Jayne Ann's work, then you will undoubtedly love this book. She writes well and does great characters. But I must admit that I used to read her books in one sitting and this one took me three days. It seemed like just about every part of the novel was recycled from one of her others. As I read it, I kept thinking about "Hidden Talents", another of her books that involved blackmail. It was more complex, funnier, and had much better supporting characters.

I hate to say it, but I'm getting tired of the fact that her main characters are always business people. Even in her historicals everybody is a business person. How about trying something new and different, Jayne Ann?

5.0 out of 5 stars one of JAK's better books 26 Nov 2004
By Deborah MacGillivray HALL OF FAME VINE™ VOICE
Format:Hardcover
Flash is a delightful Jayne Ann Krentz novel. In Krentz typical manner, we have a clash of styles between male and female, and the sizzle of opposites attract. Olivia Chantry's desk appears as if a hurricane breeze through, but she is a dynamo when it comes to her business Light Fantastic - a Seattle based firm that specializes in doing events or promotions for her clients. While she is tied up with all the aspects of her own firm, she suddenly finds herself 49% owner of shares of Glow, Inc., the family business owned by her Uncle. The trouble comes in that Uncle dearest left 51% to his silent partner Jasper Sloan. Years ago, Sloan gave her uncle the money he needed to expand Glow, Inc. Olivia's uncle trusts that Sloan will see his company goes on with a firm hand in control as CEO. Naturally, Sloan's desk is just the opposite of Olivia's. His neat-nick streak is an externalization of his need for control in his life.

Sloan has raised his two nephews since his brother was killed nearly ten years ago. He has learned having one's duck in a row, is a good way to get through life with the minimum of fuss. One look at the colorful Olivia and Sloan knows his well-ordered life is about to undergo turmoil! What he didn't expect is someone wanting him dead!

Its quirky, very lovable characters and razzle-dazzle repartee shows Jayne Ann Krentz at her best!

This is the first Jayne Ann Krentz novel I've read. It will probably be the last. I'm sure there's a story in this novel of two terribly boring people, Olivia and Jasper. Read more
