Not what it seems 27 Sep 2007
Format:DVD
Note this applies to item with ASIN B00005Y6YP only.

This was a big disappointment. There is nothing wrong with the quality of the sound or vision, it's just that all the episodes have been edited together to form what is essentially a movie. Gone are the cliffhanger endings to each episode, and gone are the opening titles, theme music and end credits listing cast and crew. Why? Even the episodes themselves have been edited with sections removed from them.

An example of this is the very first few scenes when the purpose and plot behind the 'Nitron' lamp and the demise of the two martians is lost by the removal of a scene with Emperor Ming and Azura. Also, you may be left wondering when Flash finds Happy Hapgood stowed away on Dr. Zarkhov's rocket ship why he's says 'oh, its you again!'. That's because the scenes introducing the character who makes a nuisance of himself to Flash and Zarkhov earlier have been removed resulting in loss of continuity. Zarkhov's discovery of the cause of the earth's atmospheric disturbances is also missing.

Why not release the feature on two discs if there was not enough room for the full running length of all episodes? If you're not interested in the theme tune, cast, crew, full story and the good old cliffhanger endings then this is the disc for you, otherwise you're not getting the story as it was originally intended.

This is the second of the three serials with Buster Crabbe as Flash Gordon, to be fair it's the weakest of the three. It is simply the story of Ming trying to get his revenge on the earth.

On my Disc all the episodes are on it and are not edited together, but some of them are under the wrong titles. The picture quality is not as good as Space Soldiers or Conquers the Universe, but the sound is better in that i don't have to turn the sound on the tv to max. and also if i fastforward/rewind/stop/pause playback the sound goes for a few seconds.

Jean Rogers returns from Space Soldiers to play Dale Arden. And thank god she better than she was before. she is no longer in a terrible blond wig and does not scream every two seconds. Happy Hapgood written in for comic realife i think is just dead weight in my opinon( though i must admit undertake many brave course of action). I watch Flash Gordon for action and adventure not to giggle. Prince Barin adds a familiar face. And so does the witch Queen Azura, though in Alex Raymonds' original strip she ruled the blue mountain kingdom of Mongo.

Flash Gordon trip to mars lets you return to a world with clear cut heros and villains, where mysterious rays can make you invisble and where rocket ships look like washing up liqiud bottles with sparklers sticking out the other end.

Hilariously hammy, made even more comical because each time I load the dvd for the next thrilling
installment the DVD just goes to any episode it chooses. Thus I have had to endure poor Flash being
trapped in the cave of the claymen, then being stabbed in the back by girlfriend Dale, then seeing
his rocket crash land with him apparently perishing, all at the exciting ends of the chapters and havent as yet found out how he escapes these terrible fetes as the DVD just pleases itself. I scroll down to watch episode 5 and end up watching episode 15 - its really quite funny and if the dvd had cost a lot of
money it could be annoying = still I have two more of Flashs exciting adventures which I bought at the same time = maybe they will play in order - but then again........
