5.0 out of 5 stars A race against time 1 May 2004
Format:Mass Market Paperback
WILDERNESS #42: FLAMES OF JUSTICE as by David Thompson - Leisure April 2004

For his part in a brutal massacre, see book #39 in the series; Firewater, Zach King has been captured and taken for trial at the end of the previous book #41: By Duty Bound.

Zach's family and friends race to reach him in time for the trial, a trial that seems rigged to send Zach to the gallows. Zach has been appointed an inexperienced lawyer who's up against the best, a lawyer who has no chance of saving Zach from being hanged.

As problem after problem beset those riding to help him it seems they wont make it in time. Zach's wife has plans to free him too, plans that can only lead to both their deaths surely? Zach's lawyer begins to suspect there's more to wanting his client dead too, more than just hanging him for his part in the massacre.

Once again David Thompson has come up with the goods as he answers some, but not all the questions above, and leaves you with more, in a fast moving story which once begun is impossible to put down until you reach the end...only to find you've got buy the next book to find out what happens next.

A very highly recommended read.

5.0 out of 5 stars The story continues......... 1 May 2004
By The Western Reader - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
For four months I've been eagerly waiting for the publication of this book, for four months waiting for the fate of Zach King to be told. For his part in a brutal massacre, see book #39 in the series; Firewater, Zach has been arrested and taken for trial at the end of the previous book #41: By Duty Bound.

Was the wait worth it?
You bet it was!

David Thompson continues the story with Zach's family and friends racing to reach him in time for the trial, a trial that seems rigged to send Zach to the gallows.
Once again David Thompson has come up with the goods as he answers some, but not all the questions above, and leaves you with more, in a fast moving story which once begun is impossible to put down until you reach the end...only to find you've got to wait another four months to find out what happens next!

A very highly recommended read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Been In The Wilderness Again !! 30 April 2004

WILDERNESS # 42: FLAMES OF JUSTICE By David Thompson(David Robbins) Genre: Western

I picked this book up at 11.30am today and had finished it by 5.30pm with only a break to cook the dinner for the family (And eat it!) and watch a game of footie on the goggle box. Must have read it in a couple of hours, Once I started it was hard to put down, terrific read, great action, brilliant dialogue, great character's particularly liked Zack's attorney Stanley P.Dagget who was a fascinating character, timid looking on the outside but a tiger inside, loved the way he fought against Zack being railroaded. Nate's frustration and sense of helplessness as they tried to reach Fort Leavenworth but being thwarted at every turn was really well done as was Shakespeare's sorrow at how the encroachment of people coming West and bringing civilization into the Wilderness was going to end the Mountain man's way of life and their freedom. There's obviously a plot coming up in the next book of why they are trying to set-up Zack and the real reason's behind it, I'm guessing it's to do with land or something similar. Some great actions scenes in the book including Nate fighting another bear(He'll have to lay off that bear aftershave!) in a mud slide which was exciting and gripping, Zack and Louisa's escape and capture was great as well, The section where Zack realizes they are going to be recaptured as Louisa was talking was fantastic and really moving I found. The ending was a surprise as well. Great book, read it if you can and tell your friends all about it. Highly recommended and I can't wait for the next one to continue reading this fascinating storyline.
