Product Description

Product Description

This is the final book in the best-selling Flabards series. The First World War is over and Christina marries Dick, who was once the groom at Flambards. The local gentry refuse to accept the couple socially and, with Mark Russell due home from the war, Christina is forced to face the consequences of her decision. And in the end it is Christina who is as much divided as Flambards, in her feelings for two very different men. This title was reissued in the Oxford Children's Modern Classics series earlier this year, and is now being issued in a mass-market paperback format.

This is book four of FOUR. My advice is read them in order starting with Flambards so that you can follow Christina (the main character) from age 12 to adulthood.

'Flambards Divided' covers Christina's marriage to Dick and their life together, which is not the idyll they had both envisaged.

Mark (her cousin) continues to cause Christina problems most of them emotional. The attraction that has always been between them increases, causing Christina to have some serious second thoughts.....

The antagonism between Mark and Dick also gives Christina problems - you just know she is not going to please everyone.

The outcome of the various relationships is unexpected....or maybe not....considering.....

This is a lovely final book in the Flambards series and I enjoyed this one as much as the first. If you are looking for a sentimental, sad, funny, wallowing read then this series is for you....ENJOY - I did.

There was a long gap between Peyton's Flambards trilogy and this fourth volume, and it was a shock to be reunited with characters one had left happily in that third book. However, Flambards Divided is extremely convincing and one can't put it down. Christina and the men from her childhood are unforgettable, and although one may not like what occurs in this book it is hard not to be mesmerized by Peyton's prose. A wonderful book.

I remember these books as a teen and I have just re-read them as an adult. Flambards Divided is a fitting ending to a stunning series.
I believe in reading a book before reviewing it - rather than giving a single star on the 'blurb' only - I am therefore qualified to judge a book rather than 'sit in judgement' with little real back-up.
I will advise you now - read this series of books in order, make sure you have no plans for the weekend before doing this, make sure you have healthy comfort food to hand as you will not want to put them down - fill a couple of flasks to cut down on the running to the kitchen - if you have a family, arrange childcare and invest in earplugs!
Unputdownable is an understatement - compelling and emotional they will stay with you.
You may have guessed - I love these books so much, they are the only 'paper' books I have read in a year and a half since I got my beloved Sony ebook!
Enjoy.
