Product Description

Product Description

England has a wealth of surviving houses from past centuries, be they country mansions or rustic framed cottages, and the circumstances of the age are often reflected in the interiors. Linda Hall charts the development of the fixtures and fittings we still see today - from medieval and Tudor times to Georgian and Victorian. Each chapter deals with a different component, and is supplemented by photographs and line drawings. This book will be useful for anyone with an interest in period features - as a reference book for restoration or a guide to visits.

really, really good 4 April 2012

i can hardly begin to say how much i enjoyed this book. the vast amount of research gone in to it and the depth of investingation produce a comprhensive and authoritive reference source. i have spent many hours marveling at the querky and curious veriety of orniment and imagination of provincial crafts people in the time before pattern books and mass production. if you are slightly interested in old houses then this is a book worth having.

Goes well with all the other books in the series.Illustrations are very good and show many unseen parts of buildings.

This is a great little book. It is well illustrated with plenty of details. It helps with basic initial identification of the main fixtures of houses from the Middle Ages onwards.
