About the Author

Vonhof's advice comes from his own experience as well as from numerous foot experts and ultramarathoners who know what works for them. For each problem, numerous solutions are offered. There is no one best solution - different treatments work for different feet. Clear diagrams, photos, and charts demonstrate foot maladies and treatment techniques. This comprehensive resource covers the full gamut of footwear basics, prevention, and treatments. If it can happen to a foot, it's covered in this book. An avid runner and fastpacker for more than 27 years, John Vonhof treats athletes' feet during ultramarathons and adventure races. He combines the technical training of his work as a paramedic, orthopedic technician, and emergency-room technician with his passion to help athletes with their foot problems. John has travelled world-wide to train athletes, their crews, and medical personnel about proper foot-care techniques. --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

John Vonhof has put together a valuable reference book, based on a lot of experience with the ultrarunning community - mainly American but with many members throughout Europe and Australia. The demands of long distance running are of course extreme, and provide a good test-bed for techniques and recommendations which may be of value to anyone who is on their feet a lot, not only runners. A friend who is a personal trainer found this book to be the solution to his foot problems (heel spurs).

Well worth the money! No financial interest, just a satisfied customer.

Wow, just a bible of information, in incredible detail.
I train children for a number of endurance events & got tired of trying to sort their feet out, so bought this to understand what to do.
Well it left no stone unturned & has helped countless pupils under by wing, reach their goals.
It's a good read, but not a quick one

If you spend a lot of time on your feet - either walking or running then this is really worth the read. Even if you don't suffer from any problems now it gives great advice on how to avoid problems in the future. The book is repetitive at times but you soon sense that the advice and experience coverd is real world.
