Book Description

Dec 1979
Ancient astrologers declared stars "fixed" to distinguish them from wandering stars, which they called planets. This book is the distillation of two thousand years of astrological research. It is a comprehensive survey of fixed stars in natal & mundane astrology, the stars & constellations of medieval magic, and fixed stars in astrometeorology. Robson gives their traditional meanings & their effects when combined with planets & angles. Convenient tables & a comprehensive index make this volume easy to use. Included are some 110 named stars, as well as 48 ancient constellations & 60 modern ones. Arabic, Chinese & Hindu lunar mansions are also discussed. Since its first publication in 1923, this book has been the classic on fixed stars, the one to which everyone since has referred. About the author: Vivian Erwood Robson, 1890 - 1942, was a librarian by trade. Like many librarians he had a natural bent for research, and, in his particular case, astrology. He studied ancient astrologers closely, including Ptolemy & William Lilly. His books on fixed stars, electional astrology & relationships are 20th century classics. ar

5.0 out of 5 stars Fixed Stars and Constellations in Astrology, Vivian Robson 18 Feb 2003
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
The definitive guide to the fixed stars and their effects on the natal chart by the consummate expert. There is an appalling dearth of information on this subject which is critical to a thorough analysis of the individual's sign potentials. Vivian Robson's interpretations include mythological origins detailing the symbolic elements of the star's value and ancient references. The charts included herein are easy to follow, although there are no Plutonian values given. Her definitions are conscise and simple, while her tone is direct. A must-read for the educated astrologer.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's in the Constellations 10 Feb 2008

This is a wonderful source for learning more on the fixed stars in ones natal and solar chart readings, it brings forth the energies which are not typically recognized when one has a reading completed. Along with the descriptions, it brings about a deeper understanding into what the fixed stars mean when in specific constellations which too has never been written. I recommend this to anyone who does readings or is just interested in understanding the cosmos on a deeper level.

4.0 out of 5 stars A GOOD ADDITION TO YOUR ASTROLOGICAL LIBRARY 31 Jan 2013

I bought this book because (1) there is little in the marketplace on this topic other than Bernadette Brady and (2) while I think Bernadette Brady's book is useful, I find its organization rather convoluted. I thinik Robson's earlier book provides a streamlined and more accessible companion to Brady. Having said that, it appears that much of the standard interpretation of fixed stars derives from Ptolemy's Tetrabiblos, and I've also found it useful to go back to this source.
