Product Description

Originating in the Himalayas, the five yogic exercises known as the Five Tibetans take very little time each day and minimal effort but dramatically increase physical strength, energy and suppleness as well as mental acuity. Also called the Five Rites of Rejuvenation, these exercises were brought to the West in the early 20th century by a retired British army officer who learned them in a Tibetan lamasery. Regular practice of these postures relieves muscle tension and nervous stress, improves digestion, strengthens the cardiovascular system, tunes and energises the chakras and leads to deep relaxation and well-being. Enhancing the innate energetic power of the body and mind, these exercises provide a vehicle for enlivening the senses and harnessing energy for the purpose of self-transformation. Since 1978, Christopher Kilham has taught these exercises to thousands of people seeking a healthier lifestyle. THE FIVE TIBETANS has established itself as a classic among yoga practitioners and teachers alike. In this new edition the author shares his own positive experiences from more than 30 years' devotion to the practice, even during his extensive worldwide travels and explores the spiritual benefits of the Five Tibetans as well as the profound impact the practice has on health, longevity and healthy aging. Provides illustrated instructions for the five yogic exercises known as the Five Tibetans Includes a new chapter on the author's continued devotion to this daily practice, even during his extensive worldwide travels Explains how regular practice of these postures relieves muscle tension and nervous stress, improves digestion, strengthens the cardiovascular system, tunes and energizes the chakras, and leads to deep relaxation and well-being

Great book, fairly short and concise but with all the information you would need on the practice of the Five Tibetans.
I bought this book a few years back but, like many things, read it and shelved it for another day... Whilst putting up new shelves for my books I came across it and decided to finally give it a go.

The postures/exercises are straight forward enough, and the whole practice lasts 15 minutes or less. After a week of practice I feel somewhat energised. It would probably help if you have a bit of yoga experience but it's not essential. I had only been to about 10 classes previously and most of the poses were not practised there anyway.

Highly recommended. The author writes clearly, and this is definitely a great place to start for the beginnings of a daily practice.

if you're able to ignore the eastern mysticism and holistic stuff, this book basically details five compound exercises which provide you with an excellent short energetic workout that stimulate and engage all major muscle groups and joints with minimal impact. i've been doing them for a year now and they have provided me with a time-friendly simple-to-use workout programme which sorts me out nicely.

it's important to engage them in a fluid manner and with some intensity of pace in order to stimulate the heartbeat and raise body temperataure, so that you're a bit out of breath by the end of it. if done correctly, you'll feel good because of the endorphins released into your bloodstream by your pituitary gland and hypothalamus (aka the "chakras"). also, the increased blood circulation will speed up the removal of toxins from your body and the plumping up of your epidermis which will lessen the appearance of wrinkles and tighten the skin tissue. furthermore, increased and improved circulation will also also stoke your metabolic rate as blood is pumped to your muscles for nourishment, leading your body to burn fat for more energy.

that's basically all there is to it, no great secret, just five very useful exercises which should be treated as such and no more. no, this will not arrest the ageing process - your body's cells will deteriorate and decay over time and some day you will die, sorry. however, if you look after your body by cutting out the rubbish, eating well and excercising right, there's no reason why you shouldn't be able to keep going hale and strong into a ripe old age.

like i said, a good book for the excercises alone, but if the other stuff makes you feel positive about things, then go for it, it's all good fun. cheers and take care!

For me the five Tibetan exercises do energise me. Prior to reading this book, years of a long hours/high stress job had worn me down close to the edge, since reading it and doing the exercises I am much more energetic and able to cope. Doing the exercises is no a chore and I never feel its too late or I`m too tired to do them.
