Are you Apocalypse Ready?
The Apocalypse is allegedly due to happen on 21st December, 2012. The first story in this collection is the cautionary tale of what happens when Jock McLean uses the excuse to build up a secret survival stash in a silly place at his home in Pitkirtly. This is a new story starring characters from the Pitkirtly mystery series.
Do you know what goes in the wheelie-bin and what should be Recycled? In this story, inspired by a visit to my local recycling centre, Amaryllis is the narrator and explains what happened when she got a bit cross with a cyclist. This short story was originally written for a competition (it didn’t win), and has been published on Smashwords. It features Amaryllis and Christopher from the Pitkirtly mystery series.
A Romantic Quest: two people meet under unusual circumstances. They are on different sides of the law, but will love find a way to bring them together? This story first appeared in ‘Hearts and Arrows’, the Kindle Users Forum Valentine’s Day anthology. A minor update has been made – if you’ve read it before, spot the difference. I’ve included this as an introduction to my new ‘Quest’ mystery series. The first novel in the series, ‘The Lion and Unicorn Quest’, is due to be published in the spring.
Special is a new Pitkirtly short story set at the height of summer when the days are long and the rain is warmer than usual. Jock McLean, Jemima, Dave and others go on an evening mystery tour. They half-expect to be taken to the funfair at Burntisland, but in the end they spend the evening doing something much more worthwhile.
Apocalypse Decoded: someone has a special project to deliver on time and on budget. If he succeeds, the world will end. If he doesn’t, then what? This is a one-off Apocalypse story. Don’t read it if you think you might be offended by the mention of God in a humorous context.

5.0 out of 5 stars Five Fab Short Stories 9 Dec 2012
By Joo TOP 1000 REVIEWER
Format:Kindle Edition
As it says on the tin, this is a book of five short stories. Three of them are based in Pitkirtly, two of the stories I'd read before. I love the inhabitants of Pitkirtly and am always eager to read more about them.

Apocalypse Ready: This is the perfect story of how ready some of the inhabitants of Pitkirtly are for The End Of The World. As I finished it, I felt I knew that was how it would be as the story suits the characters.

Recycled: Amarylis (from Pitkirtly) shows just how mean she can be with her darker side.

A Romantic Quest: I enjoyed this when I read it in a kuforum anthology and am pleased to find out the characters will get their own novel. As I read it again, I knew I wanted to find out more about them.

Special: Some of the Pitkirtly gang go on a Mystery Tour. Of course things don't go to plan. I wouldn't want them to.

Apocalypse Decoded: Where Him upstairs tells him downstairs he has 4 days to plan the Apocalypse. I really enjoyed this one. Middle management will never seem the same.

In summary, this is quite a short book, but I liked every single story. I don't often like all the stories in an anthology. If you've read any Pitkirtly books, these are great extras. If you haven't, then these are great tasters. It's also proof that Cecilia Peartree is not a one story author.

Liked it a lot but some of the stories a bit too short, her other stories are more satisfying than these are.
