This is one of the two of the famous five books that I have always thought of as strange. It's very atmospheric and in places a little frightening. On an unexpected weekend away from school the 5 meet up and go on a hike - but a storm and an escaped convict conspire to make this a very strange and exciting weekend indeed! But by following a map and using an old raft the gang try to beat the crooks to a haul of stolen goods.

Regarded as Enid Blyton's best Famous Five book, and I would wholeheartedly agree. No shortage of mystery and action. It rolls from page one, and has everything, except the manditory secret passage oddly enough, but even without one, it is a cracker. This book was not simply churned out to meet a publishing deadline. It sparkles as a timeless classic destined to prevail.
If you only read one F.F. book, then make it this one.

It was a very good book. I will be buying her next one. Enid Blyton strikes again. I would recommend this book to my friends and family.

Just as I remember it
I bought this book for my daughter as I loved it when I was a child. I am happy to say it is just as I remember it and she loves it as much as I did!
