4.0 out of 5 stars Same story different title, 5 Feb 2012

I ordered this book some time ago,it arrived yesterday and I started reading it and realised I had read it before, then it was Five Days in Summer by Kate Pepper.
This was not mentioned on the site, so I have wasted my money again by buying another book by Katia Lief which was previously published by Kate Pepper with a different title.
I do wish that when the books are shown that they tell you that it has been published before, its only when you receive it that on the inside page it tells you that.
Otherwise its a good story but I am mad that I have wasted money on it.

This is your basic thriller- written in an entirely average way, though you could picture it making a fairly good film. Basic plot line: Emily is missing, indeed, she has been kidnapped and the police have no idea where she is. Cue entrance of retired FBI profiler John Gearey who suspects that she has actually been taken by a serial killer who specifically targets mothers.

Makes a good story line, but is executed in an average fashion. To be frank, I have read two of Lief's previous novels and found them enjoyable, but instantly forgettable. All in all, a good book for the beach. Although read in day light as it can be rather nasty at times! Okay, but not great- this is clearly an author who is able to produce an average thriller, which you would read but very quickly dispatch to the charity shop!

3.0 out of 5 stars Average Serial Killer Thriller, 25 Jan 2012

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Programme (What's this?)
In 'Five Days To Die' our hero is retired FBI man John Geary. Contacted by a guy whose wife has vanished from the car park of a shopping mall, Geary roots aroung in some cold case files and concludes that a serial killer has become active again. And then, Watson, the game's afoot. There are the requisite plot twists aplenty, things proceed at a reasonable pace, and certainly the killer's identity is not signalled at too early a stage.

So why only three stars? Possibly I have read too many thrillers about serial killers, maybe I am just a grumpy old man. But I finished Five Days To Die with the feeling it was the same old same old, and I suspect I won't be ordering any more of Katia Lief's work. There were just too many implausible coincidences, and as another reviewer has suggested, some of what is described as taking place in the cabin of a small boat might cause chuckles of derision from anyone who has so much as changed their trousers in that environment.

Of its killer-thriller type, it is not a bad book, and is by no means the poorest I have come across. I thought it overlong and in need of some pruning, but I know that many people do like a long read.
