More About the Author

I have been reading and watching science fiction since I was old enough to watch Peter Davison walking around an unrealistic jungle set in Doctor Who. The first set of sci-fi books I ever read was The Tripods trilogy by John Christopher without ever having watched the resultant TV series. The Tripods were scary.

Over the years I've come to love books like The Dark is Rising, Ender's Game, Magician, The Belgariad, The Dragonlance Chronicles. More recently I've come to admire the Star Trek references in Robert J. Sawyer books, the effortless advanced science of Greg Egan and the finely balanced scientific\action novels written by Robert Charles Wilson.

Somewhere in all of this I came to the conclusion that I wanted to create my own adventures, set in my own worlds, with characters that acted and felt like real people. My first novel,'Threshold Shift', was the direct result of this ambition. It was really enjoyable to write and I hope just as enjoyable for others to read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Well written, thought provoking and intelligent 24 Jun 2014
By Jimbo
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
A collection of five original and engaging science fiction stories. My particular favourites were ‘Wake up Andy’ which is basically a love story with a very unusual twist and‘Zombie’ which highlights the duplicitous and sociopathic nature of secret government agencies and how they exploit the individual. I felt Zombie could easily be the first chapter of a much longer work, something also true for another of the tales, Knock Off, a disturbing tale about the cloning of a supposed serial killer.

The author also includes an excerpt from his novel ‘Threshold Shift’ which I’ve also read and cannot recommend highly enough.

Well written, thought provoking and intelligent, I would recommend this short collection to all fans of quality science fiction.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent set of quick fire stories 8 July 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I purchased this anthology after I really enjoyed the authors novel "Threshold Shift". These short stories are equally impressive and at this price is an absolute bargain!

My favourite of the five was "Wake up Andy", a clever story exploring cyro-sleep and interplanetary travel combined with human emotion.

5.0 out of 5 stars I really enjoyed the variety of stories 24 Jun 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I was surprised by the range of ideas this author has.
Each story was enough to read before bedtime and leave me with something to think/dream about.
The short stories were action packed and faat moving. They shaped my imaginings but gave space for me to personalise the characters. While each character was true to themselves the stories were not predictable.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Collection 25 Oct 2012

I love short stories. I like them because they allow authors to explore risky ideas without committing to a full novel. GD Tinnams's FIVE BYTE STORIES consists of such tales. They are bold and thought-provoking and definitely made me want to check out his other writings. 5 stars.
