Product Description

Kitty Dolan recalls a visit with Elvis in Killeen, Texas, right after his mother's death. "We drove in Elvis's white Cadillac to the house they had rented from Judge Crawford. . . .That night we sat down to dinner, with Elvis at one end of the table and his father at the other. Then his grandmother. There was a big platter of white bread for sandwich makings and a big platter of southern baked beans. Theat was topped off with a delicious pie his Grandmammy had baked. Elvis looked at me with a shy, little smile and said, 'I hope you like our southern cooking.'"

Elvis Presley liked traditional southern cooking. In Fit for a King™ are more then 300 recipes for the foods Elvis enjoyed, including many from his longtime cook Alvena Roy. Also included are menus for meals served at Graceland, for Elvis and Priscilla's wedding reception, for the Beatles' visit, and for Christmas in Memphis.

The memories Elvis's friends have of mealtimes with him at Graceland depict him as a thoughtful, considerate, and fun-loving person. Many of the seventy photographs are published here for the first time.

Collects over 300 recipes for the foods Elvis enjoyed, including many from his longtime cook, Alvena Roy.

5.0 out of 5 stars fit for a king; Elvis Presley Cookbook 18 Jun 2013
By Cec
Format:Spiral-bound|Verified Purchase
This book has a lot of recipes. There are lovely Southern recipes in it. Very simply written. There are quite a few pictures in it of Elvis's life. No pictures of the recipes but the simplicity of the recipes makes up for not having pictures of the recipes. I was impressed when I received it. Again really lovely, homely, southern recipes. Well worth it. Puddings are great too!!I assure you its a very usable cookery book

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, if you fancy an Elvis-themed dinner party 27 Feb 2001
By A Customer
This book was has lots of interesting titbits of information about Elvis and has many photos of Elvis, but the recipes themselves are a bit of a letdown. There is nothing here that makes you salivate with anticipation. However, if like me, you are going to have an Elvis dinner party then the book is indespensible. Do you know what meal was served at Elvis and Priscilla's wedding reception? Well, buy the book, find out and then make it for yourself!

5.0 out of 5 stars Eat like Elvis! 22 Dec 2001
By Bonnie Burton - Published on
It's probably not the best idea to eat like Elvis all the time, but nothing beats his recipes for peanut butter and banana
sandwiches or fried okra. Elvis sure loved his fried foods. Learn how to make Southern cuisine and mouth-watering desserts fit
for dinner at your own Graceland, but don't over do it. After all, Elvis didn't end up a skinny-minny from eating all that fried
chicken cooked in pancake batter. (...)

5.0 out of 5 stars Mother in Law Loved it! 14 Dec 2000
By A Customer - Published on
My mother in law is an Elvis fanatic, so I thought this would be cute to add to her Elvis things. Since recipes come from his cook and plenty of pictures alot have never seen. She actually uses the recipes too. She loves it.

It's a complete cookbook with rare pictures and words of

Elvis. I love it some much. In this way we know what kind of food Elvis liked. The friends that he had and a lot of things.

5.0 out of 5 stars This Elvis Cookbook Rocks! 28 May 2010
By C. L. King - Published on
Format:Spiral-bound|Verified Purchase
I bought this cookbook for myself, since I am such a big Elvis fan. It has lots of recipes, including the famous fried peanut butter and banana sandwich, which I can't wait to try. Most of the recipes in this book are Southern.

It also has a lot of pictures of Elvis with fans, his parents, etc. And information about what kinds of food he liked to eat, his generosity to his family and friends, and his love of Graceland. He is a legend that will always be remembered. I think that he would be proud to share his love of Southern cuisine, and his love of food in general. If you want to eat like the King of Rock n Roll, or you just love Elvis Presley, then I recommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars so much more than recipes 18 Aug 2009
By Virginia Campbell - Published on
FIT FOR A KING is my favorite of all my "Elvis" books. This book is overflowing with recipes, photos, inside information and wonderful, sweet memories. FIT FOR A KING was put together with thoughtfulness and sincerity. So many of the other books about Elvis are just an excuse to use his name and image. If you like music, food, nostalgia, and most of all, Elvis himself, then you will truly appreciate FIT FOR A KING.
