5.0 out of 5 stars Now that's what I call ska! 31 Dec 2011
Format:MP3 Download
I found this band through Twitter. As a ska fan from the 2Tone era I have been wary of most of the newer ska bands I'd come across. Until recently the Amphetameanies Now! That's What I Call.... were the only recent ska band I had liked. I have recently discovered several new bands through people I've met online; The Simmertones Everything's Comin' Up Ska EP, Urkel & the Winslows, Drewvis These 3 Words and the Begbies Off The Cuff [Explicit] have all impressed me, but none of them quite as much as Bombskare.
There is not a dud track on this album, a fun ride through some of the tightest and most melodic ska you'll hear produced this century (so far). Add in fine vocal harmonies at times and some of the best lyrics I've heard for quite a while- ranging from an angry track about a wrongly convicted man to some lines in other tracks that have had me laughing so hard the driver of the car beside me at the lights looked like he thought I'd lost the plot ("She's more cumbersome than Daphne Broon" was the line.)

I don't write many reviews, on here or elsewhere. I think this will be only my 3rd or 4th, I only do them for something that has really impressed me. The only other one I can bring to mind at the moment was for David Rudel's excellent accessible chess book Zuke 'Em - The Colle-Zukertort Revolutionized: A Chess Opening for Everyone. Phoenix Attack Edition. I have already had as much fun from the Bombskare album as I got from this book. It doesn't seem to have helped my chess game any though, maybe they are saving that for the next album. In the meantime I am off to buy a download of their live album, How The North Was Won as a post-xmas present to myself.

If you love ska or just love good music, get yourself a copy of these tracks. You won't regret it.

I'm actually still deaf from the album launch on Friday night in Edinburgh, but luckily my stereo has an extra notch on the volume control so I was able to relive the wonderfulness that is Bombskare's new album.

Don't listen to this in your car. You'll be nicked within a mile.
