Dont be mistaken this is one of Jet Li's finer piece, it features outstanding fight choreography and great performance from Li him self. the plot may be the same as bruce lee's fist of fury but legends polishes up on certain aspect such as the relationship between the japanese and chinese, now in legends not all japanese are racist or evil. the importance of this film is undeniable it is what inspired the fight scenes in the Matrix.
now for the negative; the film is the original American release so the video quality is great but retains the original American opening credits which is tolerable. the major problem though lies in the lazy cantonese audio conversion no effort is made to sync the Sound FX with the action screen so during fight scenes the second of delay of effects can grate. this is less notable during the dialogue scenes. the subtitles are also off the dubbing rather than the cantonese so some inconsistency are apparent to cantonese speakers.
which is such a shame for this would have been the definitive DVD release of Legend featuring some engaging extras like; yasuaki kurata interview, chin siu ho interview, gordan chan interview, kurata action school (little clip of the japanese stunt crew), a decent audio commentary and perspective look from Brett Ratner (unfortunately a pointless addition).
your purchase depends heavily on how much you can stomach the out of sync audio.
