Product Description

A stunning reinvention of Bruce Lees timeless 1972 classic, Fist of Fury, Fist of Legend delivers scene upon scene of intense and magnificently composed martial arts action, and is now considered by many to be the greatest Kung Fu movie of all time! In the most electrifying performance of his celebrated career, international superstar, Jet Li, plays Chen Zhen - the matchless number-one student of Chinas preeminent Kung Fu master, Fok Yun-gap. Upon returning home to Shanghai after a period of study abroad, he discovers that his homeland has been devastated by a brutal Japanese occupation, and that his once proud martial arts academy has fallen into disarray following the untimely demise of his beloved Master - allegedly in a challenge match with a member of the Japanese Black Dragon Clan. Disgusted by the official verdict on his teachers death, Chen embarks on a heroic and uncompromising one-man quest to uncover the true killer and restore dignity to his fallen people-a journey that will bring him into deadly confrontation with Japans most formidable fighters. Fist of Legend is a brilliant martial arts masterpiece that has been awarded iconic status by fans and critics worldwide.

3.0 out of 5 stars Amazing film lousy DVD audio. 25 Oct 2010
By Simian
Format:DVD
Dont be mistaken this is one of Jet Li's finer piece, it features outstanding fight choreography and great performance from Li him self. the plot may be the same as bruce lee's fist of fury but legends polishes up on certain aspect such as the relationship between the japanese and chinese, now in legends not all japanese are racist or evil. the importance of this film is undeniable it is what inspired the fight scenes in the Matrix.

now for the negative; the film is the original American release so the video quality is great but retains the original American opening credits which is tolerable. the major problem though lies in the lazy cantonese audio conversion no effort is made to sync the Sound FX with the action screen so during fight scenes the second of delay of effects can grate. this is less notable during the dialogue scenes. the subtitles are also off the dubbing rather than the cantonese so some inconsistency are apparent to cantonese speakers.

which is such a shame for this would have been the definitive DVD release of Legend featuring some engaging extras like; yasuaki kurata interview, chin siu ho interview, gordan chan interview, kurata action school (little clip of the japanese stunt crew), a decent audio commentary and perspective look from Brett Ratner (unfortunately a pointless addition).

your purchase depends heavily on how much you can stomach the out of sync audio.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome 26 Nov 2010
By Mavrik
Format:DVD
This is an awesome Kung Fu movie. If you're a Jet Li and Yuen Woo-Ping fan or martial arts movie fan in general then you won't be disappointed.

Adapting a classic Bruce Lee movie is a risky business but they managed to pull it off extremely well, paying homage to the original (Fist of Fury) but also bringing some new ideas to the table and giving a less one-dimensional portrayal of the Japanese for a change.

Amazing fights, great story and a great tribute to Bruce Lee's Fist of Fury.
