"fist of fury" is certainly an improvement over "the big boss" as the fight scenes have much more polish to them and the storyline is also better.
avenging the murder of his martial arts teacher, bruce lee practically wages a one-man war against the japanese martial artists at their dojo as he begins to uncover the truth of his teacher's death.
although some of the action looks slightly hokey and cartoonish, this is not down to bruce lee. he would have preferred to keep the fight scenes as realistic as possible. it is down to the fact that the offical fight arranger was rather behind the times and it shows in the fighting that occurs without lee. the action looks out of date and untidy. this is not the case when seeing bruce lee doing his thing as he helped to introduce martial arts onto the big screen by presenting an original style. his incredible hand speed and graceful movement of his body in particular, leave me feeling slightly stunned and in awe. another thing, is that lee's character is much more angry and driven as he stops at nothing in his crusade to carry out justice. the climatic fight scenes are some of the best that i have ever witnessed on film.
at long last, we are seeing the uncensored version of the film. it is more bloody and hard-hitting but as a dedicated fan of lee and of martial arts films in general, that is how i like it.
the sound and picture have been vastly improved for this dvd release and there are plenty of special features on the second disc, including a few interviews with some of the key people who worked on "fist of fury."
a classic of martial arts cinema in general, this is also one of bruce lee's very best. high recommended!
