This is my thrid Fiskars axe.
Total recommend this if you can get it for the right price as they are expensive but to me, that uses axe's regularly you won't beet the quality of a fiskars product.
First impression is the head is to heavy for the size (9" long by 5" head) but it isn't, once you start using it you'll find it's perfect.
Comes with a canvas stitched protection cover, that's fastened with velcro and has a belt or loop attachment.
Like all Fiskars axes the 30 degree coated head will not stick in the wood. Struggled a bit on knotty pine when chopping sticks out of a bit of 2"x4" but to be honest i should of used my x10.
make sure it says Fiskars Finland on the left side of the head and do a paper test to see how sharp it is. Amazing little friend that will get you out of a muddle if your into rough camping.
BAD Points the machine finish on the bottom of the handle is rough/sharp but I'm sure this will wear off during use.

If you absolutely need to have this, the shorter version, it's still a very useful tool, but the slightly longer handled version is so versatile and has so much more chopping power. The head will never come off in normal use, the blade will take a shaving sharp edge, the hollow handle can hold a small survival kit, it's a knife, chisel , hammer etc, etc. You will not regret buying one.

I bought this to be my woodcutting-peg hammering-spooncarving-rabbit chopping all round sharp thing. At 480g. for a wild camper it is a tough call; there are the 'you can use a log' and 'my bush knife does everything' types but I love this little toy - I use this expresion in the same way I would about a chain saw - and if I decide not to take it with me I spend 2 days of 'if I had little Fisky with me I could..........
It is up to you, I think it is a great piece of kit but we have to draw the line somewhere but do you really need soap-toothbrush-paste-wok-underpants?? Safe hacking!

I bought this axe as an alternative to using a large knife for processing kindling and light chopping.
It will never be as useful as a "full size" axe or hatchet but for general camping duties and battoning it works really well, the extra weight helps when splitting along the grain. Use it with the shaft parallel to the wood that you're chopping for safety.
The axe is a high quality product and quality seldom comes cheap.
It was sharp when delivered and comes with a good Cordura cover/belt loop that holds the axe securely and covers the sharp edge. Just as well as I gave mine a good sharpening, the edge lasts well and now is as sharp as I like, it shaves feather sticks with no problem at all.
So, a high quality camping/light duty axe but not cheap. It will last a long time with the proper maintenance, a good sharpening and a wipe with an oily rag occasionally. :)

Very nice axe. Well made.
Ideal weight for splitting kindling, or sharpening stakes / poles.
Not heavy enough for chopping wet wood.

I didn't want to get a huge axe as I only wanted it for chopping up bits and bobs left over from building work. This was a great buy and does exactly what I wanted it to, beware that this is very short and if you are prone to hitting your hand with a hammer then avoid this shorter version of a extremely well made axe!

I have another Fiskars axe to compare this to (Carpenter's axe) and this one arrive decidedly duller, however, it's still sharp enough for carving around the campfire and chopping small branches off trees etc.

Pros:

- Extremely light, probably one of the lightest small axes you'll find on Amazon.
- Nicely sharp (but not amazingly so, unlike my other Fiskars).
- Did I mention how light it was?
- Ergonomic
- Not heavy at all
- Comes with a really nice canvas holster with belt loop and handle.

Cons:
- Handle not replaceable.
- Didn't arrive as sharp as it could have.

This IS, a SMALL axe, but it is well built, well balanced, and very sharp. It is for the hands of an 'Outdoorsman', not a lumberjack. It completely fulfills the job for which it was designed. Highly recommended.
