Product Description

Part of the documentary fishing guide series, offering hints, tips and demonstrations to help anglers perfect their skills. In this volume, presenter Chris Yates turns to old-fashioned but still reliable fishing tackle to demonstrate that the angler's approach is more important than his equipment in capturing the perfect fish.

4.0 out of 5 stars Chill out with Mr Yates 14 Sep 2008

I quite enjoyed this DVD. During this years awful summer I've watched it a few times to remind me of what an English summer used to be like.

Chris Yate's approach is not all rigs and baits but simply to be in touch with your surroundings and to trust your instincts. You can learn more by observing than by a DVD full of complicated rigs etc.

Carp fishing can involve long periods of inactivity. I love the bit where he reckons that the carp are not feeding and goes for a nap under a tree. Perfect!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sit back relax and enjoy 6 Dec 2008
As with all of Chris's writings and Dvd's there is always something to enjoy. Despite one idiotic comment about learning nothing this is a superb Dvd. There are no claims made that this is a tutorial BAH!. Chris does not impose the do's and dont's of fishing on anybody. What's more he never ever has! However take the time to watch his Dvd's or read his books though and the real Chris unravels. I have fished beside him many times through his Dvd's and books. Like myself Chris just loves 'being there.' He loves peace, quiet, solitude and nature. Above this he likes catching fish, particularly Carp. Chris as i, prefers to use vintage fishing tackle. Split cane rods aluminium maggot tins old Abu Cardinal or Ambidex reels, quill floats and basic ledger set ups. What could be less offensive. Not a Dvd for the commercial Carp haulers, tackle tarts, all the gear no idea types and beered up bivvy boys. This Dvd as all Chris's Dvds and books are aimed at the oft' forgotten art of true angling. Now then Mr Yates when are you going to invite me to Jade Lake!

3.0 out of 5 stars Winter Sunday tea time viewing. 20 Sep 2010
This is a video for the relaxed angler, who enjoys the summer at the waterside with the unhurried approach to his angling, with 'simple' old but tested tackle. If you are expecting the modern angling paraphernalia in this production you will be disappointed. This may well appeal to the float fisher. The large pond Chris angles in (in an woodland) is the water most fishers dream of at the end of their own garden. Please though do not expect record sized fish. Put up your folding tea table and add to it your Sunday tea and enjoy The Secret Carp.
