Reviews

If you love the heritage and history of fishing you ll already know all about Mr. Crabtree. It s likely that you refer to Crabtree swims , that you know what a gentle is and that the idea of fishing in a tweed three-piece-suit doesn t really seem that odd to you.

If you re new to the Crabtree Crusade, then it s high time you joined John Bailey and his troop of protégées as they go Fishing in the Footsteps of Mr. Crabtree , combining old and new in perfect harmony to catch their quarry.

Experience with them the highs and lows of our great sport, taking in the misty dawns and the glorious sunsets, experiencing the thrill of the rod bend, the scream of the reels, and breathless anticipation as we wait to see what s going to be on the end of that line...

Lovely series of fishing adventures with stunning scenery and great wildlife/action shots; have the series on Sky Plus anyway but this is even better without the ad breaks. John Bailey as 'Mr Crabtree' is a genial host and the kids are all just brilliant. Those of us who remember the 'original' Mr Crabtree book will watch this through misty eyes; those who watched the new series/bought the new book by the same name (which did a great job of gently 'modernising' the original) will be itching to be back on the bank. That's the fishing-mad godson's birthday sorted then.

This DVD is a celebration of the British countryside and wildlife, as much as an angling series. Bernard Venables' classic comes alive again with John Bailey the expert angling presenter, and 6 lots of aspiring "Peters" Charming and exciting at the same time, these films bring back what it was like to be a boy, catching monster fish all those years ago. Lovely stuff.

I really enjoyed this and I thought John Bailey was perfect as Mr Crabtree. I really liked the soundtrack also plus the superb filming at first light. I thought the young man fishing the lakes was the most enthusiastic and I think the two girls might take to fishing also, they didn't strike me as being young anglers to be honest.
