This is a revised and expanded edition of the earlier book of this title. It covers every species of fish that is likely to be found in the coastal waters of the British Isles, Continental Europe, the Mediterranean and the North Atlantic, dealing with biological details including distribution, food and breeding habits. The colour photographs that form the illustrated sections of this book reveal the fish in their living colours and in their natural surroundings. While the accompanying text is scientifically authoritative, the book is principally designed for the ordinary reader who should find no difficulty identifying the fish he sees from the photographs. Dr John Lythgoe is a marine biologist, an expert in animal behaviour and an underwater photographer. His wife, Gillian Lythgoe is also a diver and photographer. Together, they run a natural history photographic library.
