Product Description

Product Description
An account of secret operations carried out by the British Army's most clandestine unit - the Force Research Unit. Through Rob Lewis' own experience, this book tells the story of an essential instrument in the fight against terrorism, that of covert intelligence gathering.

From the Author
Sorry for the delay !
For the record, Fishers Of Men was due to be published in August. The Ministry Of Defence saw fit to threaten injunction over certain content which had to be removed prior to launch. Hence the delay. My reasons for writing the book were threefold. Firstly, as anyone who has written a book will agree, it is primarily a wish to complete what just about everyone wants to do at some stage in their life, write a book about it !. Secondly, I wrote Fishers Of Men to complete the picture on the trilogy of British Army Special Forces Unit's who operate in Northern Ireland. The SAS, 14 Int and the FRU. Thirdly, to gain financial reward for doing so. The book was written carefully, with security of all those involved over the years maintained. ROB LEWIS. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

2.0 out of 5 stars not much meat on the bone., 7 Jun 2007
By marksy100 (n.ireland) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Fishers of Men (Hardcover)
After having lived and worked through the troubles I think I and many other ordinary people were more at risk than the type of people who wrote these books. I worked with gangs of men on the catholic and protestant divide and in one gang there was an IRA commander and on the other side a UDA commander but I still had to get engineering work done on the ground. These books are so full of macho men and at the end of this book I felt this person hadn't really done much over 240 pages except talk back to his superiors- that really required bravery! small man much noise.

5.0 out of 5 stars A look at the inside !, 17 Jan 2001
By A Customer
The book takes a look at the inside of covert operations....the author was probably heavily 'leaned' on not to divulge too much and as a consequence I must think that a lot of the sneakier stuff he was involved in had to be left out.....but, still worth reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth reading., 17 Jan 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Fishers of Men (Hardcover)
Fishers Of Men is worth reading as it appears to be the only FRU nook which has managed to slip through the Official Secrets net without too much expurgation. There is unlikely to be another i would think.

Rob Lewis covers his time in unique circumstances. There is no other book that covers the activities of the FRU....a real must for the military enthusiast.
