Not a first sorter 23 Aug 2011
Durability:    Educational:    Fun:
This is a lovely toy but for fun rather than learning. The sounds and the face were really attractive to my 12 month old grandaughter but some shapes will fit into the "wrong" holes. Also if the baby tries to post the correct shapes into the correct holes - but at the wrong angle - they won't go in. So for learning matching by trial and error it is not helpful. For messing about and having fun it is great. The Ambi Lok-a-blok is a far better first sorter because it has fewer shapes but they are 3D ones that will only fit the matching holes whichever way up they are presented - so the circle hole is right for the sphere, the square for the cube etc, and none fit the wrong holes.

Excellent Baby Gift! 28 Feb 2012
Durability:    Educational:    Fun:
My daughter was gifted this for her 1st birthday and she absolutely loves it! Obviously, she'd already developed the skills associated with grasping and fitting the correct shapes in their correct locations, but she never seems to tire of this "Cookie Jar", with its fun, lively, songs and flashing nose! She has had it for 3 months now and is definitely not short of fun, interactive toys of all sorts to choose from! It is colourful, musical and tactile, whilst also being educational for shapes, numbers, colours, grasping, coordination and orientation of movements. She has had one other shape-fitting toy, in which she has never been particularly interested, even though it is also brightly coloured. Yes, the curvature of the jar makes it slightly more complicated to insert the shapes, as one review suggests, but is this not all an important part of development?! There are 2 different options available, one describes the coloured shape, and the other the numbers on them. My daughter also loves to take the lid off and put other toys inside to drag about with her on her adventures! I highly recommend this toy as a reasonably priced gift for any child from around 6 months onwards, although I believe the Fisher-Price recommends this toy from 9 months up.

Durability:    Educational:    Fun:
I got this "cookie jar" for my daughter, when she was very little, she loved it from beginning and i still remember how proud i was when she finally understood and managed to put all shapes back to the jar. Now she is 18 months and knows all shapes, but she gets very frustrated, as its incredibly difficult (sometimes even for me) to insert shapes to holes. Walls of jar are far too thick, they are angled in strange way and there is button in each hole, which generates sound, all this makes process of inserting shape nearly impossible without help. I am going to get simpler shape sorting toy for her now. The big disadvantage for small shaky hands is also that bottom of jar is not flat, but sphere like and even when standing on daughters table when she tries to push shape in, its just moves, slides away, this makes whole process even more frustrating. There are only 5 shapes as well, which is not much once they get to certain age.
