Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Here's another management parable that draws its lesson from an unlikely source--this time it's the fun-loving fishmongers at Seattle's Pike Place Market. In Fish! the heroine, Mary Jane Ramirez, recently widowed and mother of two, is asked to engineer a turnaround of her company's troubled operations department, a group that authors Stephen Lundin, Harry Paul and John Christensen describe as a "toxic energy dump". Most reasonable heads would cut their losses and move on. Why bother with this bunch of losers? But the authors don't make it so easy for Mary Jane. Instead, she's left to sort out this mess with the help of head fishmonger Lonnie. Based on a bestselling corporate education video, Fish! aims to help employees find their way to a fun and happy workplace. While some may find the storyline and prescriptions--such as "Choose Your Attitude", "Make Their Day" and "Be Present"--downright corny, others will find a good dose of worthwhile motivational management techniques. If you loved Who Moved My Cheese? then you'll find much to like here. And don't worry about Mary Jane and kids. Fish! has a happy ending for everyone. --Harry C Edwards --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Review

'This is one fish story that doesn't exaggerate. It shows you how changing your attitude lets you enjoy your work and your life. Hook into it, it's quite a catch!' (Spencer Johnson, author of Who Moved My Cheese? )

'I recommend their book to anyone, on any level, who wants to make a difference at work.' (Hyrum Smith, co-chairman Franklin Covey Co. )

'The story of the world famous Pike Place Fish market is fantastic. But this book is not just about selling fish; it's a love story that can happen in your organisation too.' (Ken Blanchard, from the Foreword )

5.0 out of 5 stars a great little business energiser!, 7 Nov 2002
By SparklingBlue (Brighton, United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
This is a great little book that took me only an hour to read. Following in the mould of the likes of 'one minute manager' it is accessible and concentrates on a limited and manageble set of ideas about how to put more energy in to the workplace. The 'story' can seem a bit 'American cheesy' at times, but it is useful to illustrate the practical application in a realistic way. This is not just a 'what you should do is....' book, but a realistic illustration of how the ideas could work in any workplace doing any kind of work, and at any level in a company!! I also enjoyed reading it - it made me smile. I felt more energised about my approach to my work, and anything that can do that has got to be worth an hour of my time. The book contains 3 simple ideas and illustrates how to apply them.

5.0 out of 5 stars A friend of mine recommended that I read this book. I am glad I did!, 5 Jan 2009
By NYC Reader (NYC, NY) - See all my reviews
I really enjoyed reading "Fish" A Remarkable Way to Boost Morale And Improve Results". "Fish" was a quick easy read, perfect for a cold
winter afternoon.

In the book "Fish" the authors tell us the story of the transformation of a department in a large company that at the beginning of the book is considered the "Toxic Dump" of the company. The book was simple yet profound, offering ideas that are easy to understand, and implement.

The four key points of the philosophy are:

* Play - have fun and create energy at home or at the office.
* Make their day - how can you engage fellow employees, customers and make each other's day?
* Be Present - How can you make sure you are fully available and aware during conversations with people? It is about create a greater sense of intimacy between individuals.
* Choose Your Attitude - Each day you choose how you are going to act or which "side of the bed" you wake up on. The choice is yours and, the way you act, affects others.

Since most of us spend a good portion of our lives at work, this book is must read.

Other books I also enjoyed about transformation are by award winning authors Ariel & Shya Kane Working on Yourself Doesn't Work: The 3 Simple Ideas That Will Instantaneously Transform Your Lifeand Being Here: Modern Day Tales of Enlightenment their books are excellent guides to live a fun fresh life full of opportunities, right here right now no need to wait for the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Choice is Yours, 20 Jun 2008
By Susan Donlon - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
In a simple easy to read story "Fish" is about igniting passion into your work environment that can spill over into all aspects of your life. The "Fish Philosophy" is based on a few simple ideas that can transform your daily grind of a nine to five workday into an enriching, easy and yes, even a fun time at the office.

I work at a large financial firm and currently am heading a team that is focused on creating a new work procedure that has never been applied in our office previously. The creative start up process can be challenging but the team we have assembled for the work is up to the challenge and eager to be a part of something that will have an impact on the firm overall. I am so glad I read "Fish" in that I can share with my team the insights I've learned so that our work together can be productive, successful and yes here it is again...fun.

If you found "Fish" to be inspiring and enlightening, I highly recommend reading any of Ariel and Shya Kane's books called "Being Here: Modern Day Tales of Enlightenment", "Working on Yourself Doesn't Work: A Book About Instantaneous Transformation" or "How To Create a Magical Relationship." All of the Kane's books impart insights and ways into living a life that is meaningful, satisfying and joyful.

Working in a place where you smile often...how cool is that? Can you imagine living a life where you smile often? It's definitely possible.
