Reviews

From Amazon.co.uk

Action-god Jackie Chan does his best James Bond impression with First Strike, an ecstatic sequel to the classic Supercop. The bare-bones plot has Chan in pursuit of international terrorists, but the narrative quickly gives way to an unceasing barrage of insane stunt work (including a nitro-fuelled ski chase and a grandiose fight scene set inside a functioning shark tank). As with most of the ageing star's recent films, there is more of an emphasis placed on big, impersonal (albeit impressive) stunts rather than the close-up combat that made him famous; but the end result is still a must-see rush for longtime fans and a great introduction for newcomers eager to see what all the well-deserved fuss is about. The scene where Jackie takes on multiple goons while armed only with a ladder is one of his most jaw-dropping set pieces ever--and that's saying quite a lot. Be sure to stick around for the closing credits of gags gone awry, which graphically prove that Chan is truly the hardest working man in show business. --Andrew Wright

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good movie 27 Jun 2012
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
If you are expecting a strictly kung fu movie, then you may be a little disappointed as some other reviews show. This movie has some good kung fu scenes, and some of Jackie's inventive fighting (The ladder scene is great especially), but overall it's more of a James Bond style action. I like it for what it is. In this style, Police Story 3 is probably a little better, but this is still a good one worth watching.

I would recommend however that you take care about which version you buy. I bought the EIV (Entertainment In Video) version, and it's not the best way to see this movie. It's been cut by about 20 minutes, the picture quality is not too good, it's letterboxed 4:3 (Normally a widescreen movie would be in letterboxed 16:9, meaning more of the available pixels in the DVD format are used). If I made a guess, I would guess it's a quickly done transfer from an old VHS master copy. It doesn't have the original language available (although much of the original movie was in English anyway, and the dubbing here is actually pretty good compared to most of Jackie's movies). It has no extras. However it was watchable, and I enjoyed it, I just wish I'd hunted out a better version. Only buy the EIV version if you can't find anything else and it's a bargain price.

This one is kind of Jackie Chan does 007. Not so big budget, not so serious, but just as spectacular and twice as fun!
I would choose Jackie Chan before Double-O anytime.
Recomended to everyone that would like a good action comedy, the Jackie Chan way.
