Book Description

Steve Brennus is a former special forces soldier whose family life and business have just collapsed in ruins. Things seem hopeless until he gets a call from a stranger asking for his help. The mysterious caller also claims to be able to help with the problems in his life and so Steve agrees to meet him. He has no idea that in doing so he will be plunged into a world of murder, intrigue and impossible abilities that will challenge his beliefs and test his strength to the limit. Because the caller’s name is Psimon, a frightened young man who also claims to be the world’s first true psychic.

Psimon has abilities that could change the world but first he must overcome one small problem. In five days he is going to die a horrible death at the hands of a serial killer known as Lucifer. And the only way he can avoid this terrible fate is if Steve kills him first.

With a small cast of engaging characters, blistering pace and a thoroughly evil villain, First And Only takes the reader on an unforgettable ride. From the intensity of the first scene to the dramatic and satisfying climax the story pauses just enough for readers to catch their breath.

More About the Author

Peter Flannery lives in a small village in the Scottish Borders with his wife and two young boys. After leaving school he studied art and design before leaving college to work in forestry. However, during an accident at work he broke his neck and, after a month on traction and a year's convalescence, he moved into horticulture before switching again to set himself up as a sculptor working for the toy industry.

A design studio in Edinburgh provided the opportunity to move from sculpting to writing and he became the lead writer for Target Games UK Ltd. He is now an independent writer working on a range of titles for both adults and children. FIRST AND ONLY is his first published novel.

Following the success of the novel First and Only is now making a bid for the big screen.

5.0 out of 5 stars Psimon odd name great explanation! 14 July 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I rarely if ever read supernatural thrillers but after reading few of the 5 star reviews I decided to give it a go. I'm so pleased that I did.
My usual poison is crime and this story incorporates both crime and the supernatural perfectly.
Its hard to say who the main character is throughout this book because unusually there is a true partnership going on between hero and victim. The unwilling hero is held back by his fear of the unknown and the victim unusually can see into the unknown causing friction within their fledgling professional relationship. As they work through their differences they are thrown into a worldwide battle of political supremacy and move at lightening speed toward the inavoidable truth that one of them will die at the hands of the other.
I did struggle at times with the fundamental premise of psychic phenomena but once I was able to let myself go and be drawn into the story I found I was intrigued and couldn't put my kindle down.
I would recommend this to crime fans as a way to extend the genre and to everybody else as I feel the unique storyline has something in it for everyone.
Try something different, give this new author a chance and gain an insight into his trully weird world! Only one problem though this is the authors 'first and only' book so far!

5.0 out of 5 stars Gripping 26 Jun. 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
This book is gripping, a real page turner. I wasn't sure what to expect from the cover or the blurb but I couldn't put it down until I finished it. The intensity builds and builds and had me enthralled. It draws you in so you feel for the main character. Fantastic concept done very well and amazing imagery. As the suspense built towards the end I felt I was holding my breath and turning the pages faster and faster. A must read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Captivating read, hard to put down. 21 Jan. 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
A most surprising and entertaining first book, excellent and bravo! Not my usual type of read but it hooked me in and kept me gripped throughout with the speed of developments and the many unexpected twist and turns. Like my fellow reviewers, I didn't want to put it down, but at the same time, I really didn't want it to end. Looking forward to Mr Flannery's next book, and hoping he won't keep us waiting too long!

5.0 out of 5 stars Just Buy It! 21 July 2014
By Siltone
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I have just finished reading this book and have to say I was well impressed. I would ordinarily groan at the very idea of buying a novel that purported to be about the world's first psychic who, in a matter of days, is surely going to be horrifically murdered by a killer known only as Lucifer. But eh, I was surprised at how good this book actually is. The main characters of Psimon and Steve Brennus are well fleshed out and became people who I soon got to care about. Coming in at just under 280 pages left no room for the type of padding out that many authors succumb to these days. Instead, this author has penned a fine debut novel where every word and sentence counts. Yes, there's no messing about with this writer, from page one he hits the ground running and the story never runs out of steam. A very satisfying read and a book I shall be recommending to all and sundry.

Personally I was moved by this book. Professionally speaking (Psychologist) I was impressed by Mr Flannery's very gentle references to Psimon's fugue state each time he tried to think about seeing his tormentor again. He links the original source of Psimon's catatonia to the eventual outcome in a heartbreakingly compassionate manner. Equally genuine is the friendship between the two 'heroes' - watching the understanding and regard they have for each other grow is a real mirroring of the manner in which most long-lasting relationships develop; minus some of the more gritty bits though!!

The subjects addressed in this truly beautiful story are always of interest. Serial killers and the world of psychology vs. psychic phenomena always fascinate us. The difference here being that both topics have been handled with deep respect.

Apart from these more serious comments (!) I was so completely engrossed by this book that, with great reluctance, I finished it in one sitting! I will now have to read it again (not something I do often) to savour all the delicious nuances of this fantastic and gripping novel. Another one soon please Mr Flannery :-)
